Another year, another Oscar ceremony has come and gone. This year we celebrated the awards in Whistler, Canada at a little party at the Westin Hotel where Anthony won for best Oscar ballot. He wore is fanciest sweater to the celebration!
All in all, I loved the show. Neil Patrick Harris was fabulous and funny. Loved when he spoofed Birdman and came out in his undies…ummm, hello giant wiener? Just saying.
As for my absolutely favorite moment where I basically lost my marbles…LADY GAGA! Her rendition of The Sound of Music can possibly go down as one of the most amazing moments in Oscar history. I’m not sure why I started crying during it, perhaps the nostalgia of it all, maybe it was her stunning voice, probably both. At one point Anthony asked me if I was pregnant. (I’m not.) Julie frigging Andrews, the original Maria, was blown away as well! Lady Gaga also just got engaged to her super duper hot boyfriend so I think it’s fair to say, she’s having a really good fucking year!
Let’s, for a moment, talk about the speeches. I know I should probably say that Patricia Arquette’s was my favorite (she spoke on fair wages for women and I totally agree) but I LOVED JK Simmon’s speech. He encouraged viewers and peers to call home to tell mom and dad you love them. It was a really feel good moment and I love him for saying what he did. Plus he deserved that Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash…BIG TIME.
Another favorite would have to be Julianne Moore’s acceptance speech for her role in Still Alice. This film hits very close to home and I am very grateful for the film and as she said, perhaps this movie will help encourage more research and understanding of this terrible disease. I have not seen this film yet due to the fact that I will need 80 boxes of tissues and I am waiting for my shipment to arrive, but I know she did a phenomenal job, as she always does in all of her roles.
I am very curious as to why John Travolta’s chunky necklace didn’t stir up more of a buzz. I mean, look at that thing! You know what I like about JT? I like that he’s all about a statement piece. Last year he wore that incredibly groomed chin nubby and this year he wowed us with a vintage chunky necklace circa 1994. He’s all “screw the bow tie, let’s rock this chunky chain!”. He has also gone a shade darker with the toupee and played with the part a little. He is just so versatile! I wonder what he’ll wow us with next year!
Here we have a: who wore the same face and suit better??? I feel like I am literally seeing double here. What the hell is going on? I guess since Eddie Redmayne accessorized with a little gold statue at the end of the evening, he wins!
This year’s award show dresses didn’t blow me away. To be more specific, I will more than likely remember the bad ones more than the good ones. I did have some favorites from the Academy Awards, but I feel more lukewarm than hot over any of them. With the being said, here are some of my top dresses from this year’s Oscars.
Laura Dern is Alberta Ferretti. This dress is edgy and the fit is perfection. I love the metallic slate color! Although…I hate her necklace.
Rosamund Pike in Givenchy. Now this look is stunning. Huge comeback from her Golden Globes look. She kills it in red and she had a baby like 3 minutes ago. And I love that she wore red shoes with her red dress, I hate nothing more than black heels with a red dress, I just can’t. Well done Rosamund! Her entire look, top to bottom, bottom to top, rocks.
Jennifer Aniston in Versace. It is a very, very rare thing that you’ll see her on my best dressed. I think she often plays it safe and I truly cannot deal with her hair looking the same at every frigging show or appearance. Curl it, put it up, I don’t care if you f-ing crimp it, do something! BUT, this dress is exceptional and it looks exquisite on her body. Plus her human accessory is hot, so that helps her whole look.
Gwenyth Paltrow in Ralph and Russo Couture. I know this was a love, hate kind of dress, but I loved it. It is so girly and I am a huge fan of shoulder pieces when done right. Not like that one time Paula Patton wore that dress that looked like lady parts at the Golden Globes last year. Nope. Lady Gwen looks lady like and pretty, I love this dress on her. Plus her earrings are frigging awesome!
Jenna Dewan – Tatum in Zuhair Murad. This dress is beautiful, sexy and her all around look is award show perfection. I love the sparkle and diamonds and her lip is perfect for this stunning dress. Just enough pop!
Jessica Chastain in Givenchy. I absolutely swoon over this dress and her look. It’s sexy, creative, hip hugging, a touch of sparkle and this blue hue is perfect with her hair color. It’s as if this dress was made for her…which it probably was, so that would make sense. This could very well be my favorite all around look of the evening. Love love love it!
Scarlett Johansson in Verscace. I have to throw ScarJo into the mix because I love the fashion risks she likes to take. Do I absolutely love this dress? Not entirely. But she rocked this edgy, punk rocker meets world renown actress look. Her shaved head is hot and she is stunning with a bag over her head if you ask me. What I do absolutely LOVE about her look was her necklace. That is art! It could very well be part of the dress, I can’t even tell. Necklines like this one make me go bananas in a good way. Plus, hello! She matched her dress to her tattoo. Done and done.
Well done Oscars 2015! Here’s to a new year with new movies! Get out there and go see a few…especially the good ones with stories that need to be seen and heard! xo
