Last week we escaped the Chicago winter to enjoy a bit of winter and snow boarding in Whistler, Canada! It was absolutely amazing! If you haven’t been out there before and you’re looking for an adventure, I highly recommend it. Now, I’m a total newbie to snowboarding, so over the past year or so I have been collecting pieces here and there to create a little snow bunny outfit of my own. Since I am a total beginner at this sport and I want to be very visible to my husband and the ski patrol should I happen to snowboard into a forest, I decided to go with brighter colors. I feel very Paris Hilton-y in this get up and I secretly love that. I remember watching Vh1’s True Hollywood Story of the Hilton Sisters while in college at DePaul University in McCabe Hall (shout out to my fellow Blue Demonettes – you know who you are!) and was mesmerized by their hot pink everything. I have since lost that lust for wanting to look like pink threw up all over me, but I am down for hot pink accents here and there, as you can see. I was super warm and comfy. I fell on my ass plenty of times, but thank goodness for my natural cushioning no major damage was done. If you haven’t tried snowboarding and want to try it…do it! It’s so incredibly fun, kind of scary at times (much like anything new) and you get to put on a cute little snow bunny outfit. Tip: If it’s possible, take two or three days of lessons from an instructor. It’ll make a huge difference and it’ll keep you from bad habits early on.
Here’s what I wore and below are the links to anything that you see and like. Everything comes in several colors as well…in the event you’re not a pink kind of lady.
When you’re ready for boots, these Burtons are a MUST. No tying laces, no nonsense. Right before you get on the gondola to go up you literally pull a main center lace and two side laces, tighten and roll them into a little side pocket. Voila! For the most part, no hassle the entire time. One less thing for a beginner to worry about.
As for layering, I wore a sports bra, a tank, a t-shirt and then my Lululemon running crew neck shirt. I love it because it has a thumb hole and it just feels right while wearing mittens; which I borrowed for the second year in a row from a very generous friend…I love them so much, I’ll be getting these exact ones for my next trip. Super warm and water proof. Plus room for a pair of knit, touchscreen gloves if need be. Thanks Megan! You can have them back now.:)
My Northface snow pants are super roomy, comfortable and warm. With that being said, you obviously still need a pant of some sort underneath. For me that was an easy decision, I just threw on a pair of my Lululemon yoga pants underneath and hit the mountain. They are also very comfortable, breathable and stretchy. Plus it made for a lighter suitcase, yoga and snowboarding pants all in one!
Snow goggles can run super expensive, these Bolle ones are PERFECT and really reasonable for a beginner/first timer snowboarder.
Get your cute, little booties up on a mountain and go on an adventure. You only live once! Stay tuned, Whistler travel post coming next week! XOXO
