So, I have been seeing gorgeous plum shadows on runways and in magazines everywhere. Having green eyes, this is a trend I dig because the contrast rocks my iris’. I found myself roaming the beauty department for some new shadows to play with and alas, I bump into this palette, Smashbox’s Double Exposure. Holy crap, the moment I saw her I knew she and I would be working together quite a bit in the future. At first I thought she was just your plain old shadow palette. I have been loving smashboxs other palette, Full Exposure, for a while now so I knew this was a done deal. Then, I come to find out there is more to her then first expected. These 14 gorg colors evolve into 28 colors. How? A little water on your brush converts them from their original form into brighter, deeper, more shimmery versions of themselves. I was not happy to hear this. I have had many experiences with color altering shadows that have left me pissed off and unimpressed. Ever been told you can wet a shadow and a fucking seal of kryptonite forms over that bitch never to be used again? Yeah. I have used butter knives to scrape that kryptonite off. That’s some bullshit. Considering I absolutely loved the colors in the DE palette and Smashbox, I figured I would give her a whirl.
The Palette comes with a guide describing the changes that takes place with each individual shade by adding a little water. The changes include turning metallic, getting deeper, amping up vibrancy, and adding sparkle.
There is also a handy dandy guide for you beginners. Inside you will find an application guide for every eye shape and lid type on the planet.
The product also comes with a double sided brush in addition to a travel size Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black. I did not use Smashbox’s mascara for this look. I have used her before and like it very much but opted for Loreal’s voluminous mascara in Carbon Black. LOVE.
Below is a look I created using DE.
I am in love. This palette is going to be making many of appearances on this blog and on the streets of Chicago. The pigments are insane. Without water, they kick ass. With water, they rule the world! These fuckers weren’t lying. Water totally alters the shadows and does exactly what they say. And no kriptonite here, bitches! The shadows are still powdery and penetrable after being used with water.
