Hell yeah we are!!! How can we not be? After watching Jenner announce to the world that he is transitioning into a woman, I’m pretty sure myself and my two sisters suddenly became a few of his biggest supporters. Again, how can we not be? Here we have a person who was, at one time, the best male athlete in the ENTIRE WORLD. And not only was he the best male athlete, but he was a frigging sexy, good looking athlete. Ummmm hello there super hunk. I totally would have made out with him back in the day and I know for a fact Michelle would have too.
Ok, now all (or most) joking aside, this may be one of the most sensational, empowering news stories I have ever followed in my life. Honestly, it’s absolutely and utterly mind blowing. I believe this is one of the hugest steps to acceptance and encouragement for the transgender community and I couldn’t be more excited for Bruce to fully become a woman. It’s who he is…it’s who she is. Anthony teases me because I am easily brought to tears from emotional moments on tv or in movies and it’s fair to say I cried about ten times while watching her tell her story, show her emotions, express the heart ache, the failed marriages, attempts to change, to fix herself, her contemplation of suicide, how she told her children her plans to change. There is such an enormous amount of emotion, energy, love, grief and compassion that goes into Bruce’s story. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so happy for someone I’ve never met before. Yet, I know it’s because she is now free and because I also know that she is absolutely going to change the way society views transgender individuals and I can only hope she helps create laws to protect and support our transgender friends. Because just like you and me, they are humans, they have families, they have love, they have a heart and they simply want what you and I want. They want to be happy. I wouldn’t be too happy if I had to hide who I was from the world. Actually, I’d be pretty fucking sad. Take a moment and think of some one you love immensely with all of your heart. See that person in your mind. And now, imagine that person in the saddest state they could possibly ever be in. Crying, alone, scared, depressed, worried. My heart breaks for the people who have this sense of fear and self concern and I can only hope that this event, this announcement, of our nation’s beautiful Olympian will pave the way for major acceptance for all human beings no matter who or what they are. Happiness is one of the most sought after human emotions we all desire and no one should be exempt from that feeling. Well, unless you’re a total asshole, then that’s your problem.
I came across a tweet that read, “2,000 people die in Nepal because of an earthquake, a volcano erupts in chile (sic), and the biggest news right now is Bruce Jenner being a woman.” I understand this person’s statement, I get it. But at the same time I also get and know that youths and young adults across the globe are contemplating and committing suicide and in a different and just as tragic way, people are dying. This is and should be major news. This is going to save lives and that’s the truth. Open your mind sweet twitterer because this story is not just about Bruce Jenner, it’s about every single one of us. Because if you think about it…don’t we all want to be accepted in some way or another???
This summer she will share her story and transition in a documentaries to help people understand the magnitude and the importance of her decision to become her true self. Her announcement and this idea to share is hands down one of the most courageous acts she will ever do for an entire community of people who need this type of support. Basically, Bruce frigging rules!
TEAM BRUCE!!!! You’re brave, you’re strong, you’re beautiful inside and out. And Nicole is right…you’re gonna be HOT! Get it, giiiirrrrrlllll!!!! XOXO
