This year’s Met Gala went off with a gigantic bang and I frigging loved it! I look forward to it’s fashion every year. With the theme, China: Through the Looking Glass, celebrities and fashion icons took this theme and killed it on the red carpet. With tickets going for $25,000 per person, this star studded charity event was more like an insanely beautiful and not so beautiful at times, runway show. Here are my thoughts on who wore what.
Hands down Beyonce was a favorite of mine. Anything that sparkles often is. Even when half naked. This Givenchy dress was stunning on her killer bod. I think after last year’s gala when Solange karate kicked JayZ in the elevator Beyonce was all about having people forget that moment with this bedazzled see thru number! May have worked for some…but not for meeeeee! While slightly obsessing over her dress I knew I have seen something sparkly and see thru like this before. And then it hit me. Fierceness.
Behati Prinsloo in a Tommy Hilfiger midnight blue velvet and sheer ensemble. I love her simple look paired with the dramatic eye, delicate jewelry and amazing clutch. Adam Levine is a lucky guy!
Victoria Secret’s Candice Swanepoel looks stunning in this Michael Kors body hugger. This dress fit her like a glove and the train is to die for. I love her entire look; pure sophistication and glamor.
Emily Ratajkowski in Topshop. TOP to bottom, stunning.
Love these two musical besties! Lorde in Calvin Klein and Ellie Goulding in Marchesa! Well done ladies!
Kendell Jenner in Calvin Klein. I love emerald and a good side boob.
Moschinno and Madonna are basically synonymous. I typically cannot deal with Madonna’s red carpet attire but she actually looks uh-mazing! Loving her dark roots and hair length. Her face looks super beautiful, not too over filled and just perfect. She looks like the bad ass Madonna I like to think of her to be. That is, when she’s not dressed like a bull fighter or the old guy from Poltergeist 2.
Dakota Johnson in this disco ball Chanel is to die for. The cut, eyeliner, purse and heels are perfection! Simplicity.
SJP’s Philip Treacy headpiece is totally fucking crazy, but guess what? That’s what the Met Ball is all about. This H&M ensemble wins in my book. She rocked that piece until the very end too! And that smokey, squinty eye? She slays.
Anne Hathaway’s golden, hooden Ralph Lauren is boring and just isn’t doing it for me, like at all. No.
Seriously? No comment.
Chloe Sevigny in JW Anderson is all sorts of WTF. From the flat hair with the middle part, to the choker to the choice for a gown…I just can’t agree on anything happening here. I once checked her into a hotel in Chicago back in the day when I was working the front desk. I was told to address her specifically and only her assistant would respond back on her behalf. I looked at her, asked her if she wanted a smoking or non smoking room and she whispered her answer to her assistant and then her assistant relayed the message to me. Is that not the most bizarre exchange ever? Just about as bizarre as her entire ensemble.
Ugh! This was a big disappointment as you know I LOVE Diane Kruger’s red carpet and everyday fashion choices, festival fashion too! This number was a huge bummer. I suspect it’s to pay homage to cherry blossoms yet is was a bit of a fail in my book. But, of course, she wears it beyond well, so I give her that. PS. those pants look really comfortable.
This is a Reese look I can imagine seeing at the Golden Globes. This is very, very underwhelming. The only thing I appreciate here is that she wore red heels…I loathe nothing more than a red dress and black heels. Nope. Is that her Jason Wu hanger strap dangling under her arm?
Oh look, Sophia wore ANOTHER strapless, sweetheart dress. Shocking. This dress could have been her wedding dress and I can suspect her bridal gown will be strapless and sweetheart. You can do better chica.
The Thank You
Everyone is talking about FKA Twigs being engaged to that guy from Twilight…but I’m more obsessed with the wiener on her Christopher Kane creation and that she’s getting a titty twister.
I love that Katie Holmes threw us back to the Tom Cruise days with that banged out bob wig! Thanks for bringing us back to the time when you were chugging the Scientology juice and now you’re back to normal again! Well done, you go girl! Looking good in Zac Posen.
Give me more Kris!!! She is totally bringing out her inner Gozer from Ghostbusters with that fabulous blown back late 80’s pixie and I love it! But there it is…a red dress and black shoes. I will never be okay with that fashion decision and there is just too much going on here. The hair A+, the rest, not so much.
Anytime the Olsen twins show up anywhere, I freak. My love affair with them started in college circa 2004 and it has not faded one bit. These little bohemian twinkies are my everything. Ummmmm, Ashley’s (on the right) engagement ring??? Check out this article on their secret to the perfect photo. #prune
Yaaaassss! Claire Danes totally brought it to the gala this year. Granted her look would probably have gone a bit better for the goth theme last year, I don’t care. Her lip color, mixed with her 90’s hair flip, evergreen Valentino and leather belt?! I die. I feel like she has totally played it safe in the recent past and this look just does me in. In the best way possible.
The Favorite Duos
Cher and Marc Jacobs in, well, Marc Jacobs of course. OMG OMG OMG. I can barely deal with anything that is Cher. Such a legend and damn, girl looks fabulous! Looooove her gown. Love his man clutch. #brilliant PS. Marc Jacobs is super dapper and handsome!
Rose Byrne in this leather Calvin Klein cut out is not just stellar fashion, it’s art. She looks super comfortable and sexy. Her wavy long bob seals the deal. Oh and I had no idea she was dating the hot Bobby Canavale. Their color scheme and his brown tux is absolute perfection and so easy on the eyes.
Met Ball Gossip
Lady Gaga said she looks a bit out sorts at the gala because apparently she accidentally took three Aleve PM to relieve the headache due to her fierce headpiece. Out of sorts or not, love her and all of her weirdness!
It took two years for designer Guo Pei to hand make Rhianna’s ginormous, yellow cape. Holy shitballs.
The Met Gala strongly enforces a “no selfie” rule to not cheapen the charity event. Shockingly, Kim K followed the rules and left her phone at home.
Spotted: Bradly Cooper making out with model Irina Shayk. Sexy times!
Blake Lively was a no show although she was expected to walk the red carpet and attend the party. No word yet why the fashion icon did not attend. Probably making out with her hot husband.
Gwyneth Paltrow was also a no show. This comes two years after she said the gala sucked. Lol!
This makes me so frigging hungry. So, who’s your fav and least fav??? xo
