It is super important to cleanse your makeup brushes twice a month. Why? For starters, makeup brushes are not cheap. When you invest in good brushes you want to ensure their longevity by taking care of them. Cleaning them properly is a pretty good way to make sure they last a long time. Do you want to know another reason why cleansing your brushes is important? Repeated use of your make up brushes cakes them with residue, oils, and dead ass skin. GROSS! If you don’t clean that shit you are just putting all of that kaka back onto your face. And guess what? Your dirty brushes are the perfect place for a little bacteria to breed. Using dirty ass brushes to apply your makeup can absolutely cause some breakouts. I think I have your attention. Let’s clean that shit.
Here is what you need
A mild shampoo (Baby shampoo works great, otherwise use whatever you have around as long as it is a plain old mild shampoo. I know a couple bitches who use dish soap and they live by it.)
A clean, dry towel
Here is how you do it
1. Get the bristles wet with some warm water.
2. Put a pea sized drop of shampoo into the palm of your hand.
3. Massage the wet bristles into the shampoo to create a foamy lather. If your brushes are dirty little bitches the soap may not lather up the first time. Rinse and repeat. Soon you will notice the suds getting discolored from the caked on makeup. Rinse with warm water and repeat the process until the suds are white and the water runs clear.
4. Make sure your brushes are rinsed thoroughly.
5. Reshape your brushes and lay them flat to dry on your clean, dry towel.
It will take about half of the day for your brushes to dry completely. DO NOT use your brushes while they are damp. It will ruin your makeup and you will look like a hot ass mess. If you are in a rush and you need your brushes, grab your blow dryer and dry them gently on a low setting. Make sure you move them around to get them back to their original shape. I try to wash my brushes in the evening. This way they have all night to dry and I wake up to dry, clean ass makeup brushes. And let me just tell you. Using freshly washed makeup brushes is an awesome feeling. You are going to think you have brand new brushes and 10 bucks says your skin clears up a bit, too.
I have been doing it this way for 20 years and makeup artists I have worked with do it the same way. Many chicks dig using drying racks and shit to dry their brushes. Don’t waste your moolah. Standing your brushes up to dry can cause water to drip down and it can rust the metal.
Wait. I probably should have asked this sooner. Do you even have the right makeup brushes? Or good makeup brushes for that matter? Do you even have makeup brushes? Shit. Thank sweet baby Jesus you have me to guide you. Check this out and treat yourself. You deserve it! I get it. They are an investment. Buy a few at a time. Build your makeup brush arsenal slowly but make sure you build it! Remember, when you look good, you feel good, and your ass isn’t going to look good if you’re using your finger tips, sponge applicators to apply eyeshadow, or cheap ass brushes that don’t do your bad ass makeup products justice. YOLO, bitches!
Oh, and don’t forget to wash your beauty blender while you’re at it! Don’t have one? Ugh. What the hell am I going to do with you? Click here and do yourself a favor and buy it right frigging now.
Lastly. Don’t forget. You. Are. Fucking. Beautiful. xo
