I am a busy broad. Between my kids, family, photography, TSP, social life, and everything else in between, I often opt for this badass 10 minute makeup routine. I guess you could say this is my version of the “5 minute, barely there, looks like I have no makeup on” routine except it’s actually more like a “10 minute you can totally tell I have makeup on” routine. I am a chick who digs makeup and I love looking and feeling beautiful. What was I going to do, allow a tight schedule to force me into going out makeupless? Not a chance in hell. I had to modify my life, roll with the punches, and create a makeup routine perfect for a girl in my position. Sigh. I sure wish I were referring to the Reverse Cowgirl or something super nuts and fun but instead I am referring to a life so busy I can’t spend my beloved 45 minutes a day on makeup. Being busy has been amazingly cool, though. I am digging it. If my only complaint is not being able to Tammy Faye my face then I am A.O.K. And before I forget, this isn’t just for the girl who loves wearing a shit load of makeup but can’t because of her crazy busy lifestyle. This is the perfect regimen for any girl, especially the girl who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup but likes to put her face on for date night or girls night out! It’s simply quick, easy, and perfect! Go on. See for yourself!
Step 1: Moisturizer + Primer.
Here I am moisturized, primed, and ready to go.
New Favorite Product Alert! Smash box’s Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer. Benefits? Promotes hydration and radiance, targets dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, texture, skin tone, age spots, clarity, and it’s soothing. This stuff is where it’s at. Keeps my concealer from slipping, caking, and creasing and is super duper moisturizing. It can be worn alone to moisturize and brighten the under eye area or with makeup. IN LOVE. I suggest every girl grabs a tube and thanks me later. I am thanking my new, cute, Italian Makeup Artist friend, Gabby.Step 2: Tinted Moisturizer.
Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer is my everyday foundation. It is perfectly moisturizing with just the right amount of coverage. Take a look at how shear and radiant it is. Thats one layer and that’s all I need.Step 3: Concealer + Eye Primer + Brow Filler.
Amazing concealer is my everything. Applied with my ever trusty Beauty Blender.
Mac Painterly Paint Pot is my shadow primer. I use it on the entire eyelid. Lash to brow. On days like today when I only have a few minutes to put myself together I use Painterly to even out the tone of my lids and leave it at that.
Anastasia Brow Pomade in Taupe. I have perfected the quick and easy brow filling application. I have thin ass brows and need to fill them or else I feel as though someone erased my face. If you are in a hurry and you don’t have the time or the experience to fill a quick brow, step away from the pomade. Grab Anastasia’s Tinted Brow Gel and call it a day.Step 4: Eye Shadow + Eyeliner.
Mac’s Soft Brown Matte eye shadow is the perfect neutral shade for the crease of the eye when you are trying to pull off the “I had 10 minutes but I want it to look like I had an hour” look. I put a little on my favorite crease brush and applied the pigment to the crease of my eye. Quick and imperfectly perfect. I never forget to blend my eye, It is the key to looking like you know what you are doing with makeup.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Cocoa is my favorite quick and easy liner. I used the fabulous Bobbi Brown Eyeliner brush to apply my liner. A little bit goes a long way especially when going for the “barely there” liner just to thicken my lash line a little.
Ok. So here is the best part of this whole frigging thing. See this fan brush right here? I am about to tell you something super effing cool, so you know the drill. Rise! Get on your feet and raise your hands to Jesus and praise that cool ass guy upstairs because this thing is a gift from God! For you girls who don’t have a clue what to do with makeup brushes are going to LOVE this and you other girls who know everything about makeup brushes are going to LOVE this too. Why? Because this one brush can be used for like 5 different things. For this routine, I used this brush for my powder, bronzer, and highlighting. You heard right. Cool ass shit right here. It makes putting makeup on during a commute a breeze! And for us moms with no time? 1 brush. done.
Smash box Fan Brush #22. Remember I mentioned my new friend, Gabby? She made me buy this. It is marketed as a brush used to remove fallen shadow from application. That doesn’t even dent this brush’s potential. Did I mention it’s $14? I know. Awesome, right? Quick and easy powder, bronzer, blush, highlighter, and contouring application with just this one little fan brush. This is my new go to brush for the everyday makeup app. Am I going to use this thing when I am getting all gussied up for a hot date? Probably not. I have my makeup brush arsenal for nights like that, however for you girls who apply your makeup with sponges (I die) or worse, don’t apply makeup at all (I can’t even deal)? Here is your brush. You are welcome.Step 5: Powder.
Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting powder. I used my handy dandy fan brush and simply applied my powder onto my face. This sets my foundation and keeps my fine lines at bay. I love this powder. Step 6: Bronzer + Blush + Highlighter.
Anguilla Matte Multiple by Nars. I love me a multiple stick. Here I use this peachy pinky hue on the apples of my cheeks with the help of my fingertips. I lightly dab it just where I want it and BOOM. Perfectly blushed!
Laguna Bronzer by Nars. Applied with the fan brush, Laguna gets to make an appearance. My bronzer is what brings my face to life and adds a little dimension aka a little bronzing contouring. I pay a little more attention to the hair line, temples, and just below the cheekbones. I do, however, make sure to get a little all over the face, just more in some places. PS: The fan brush is awesome at easy contouring.
Albatross powder by Nars. Take a look at my nose and around my orbital bone. See that super pretty golden sheen? That would be this highlighter and in my opinion it is an essential part of every makeup application. It brings make face to its happy, glowing place. Fan brush done did it again! I applied my highlighter to the bridge of my nose, under and around my eyes, and above my brow.
L’oreal Voluminous Million Lashes in Black. Seriously. If there is one thing you do to your face let it be this. Naked eyeballs need it and I need to see your naked eyeballs with it on. I always curl my lashes before applying mascara. Before. Never after, girls, unless you want to break ’em off and pull ’em out, of course. Shiseido Eye Lash Curler is what I use and love. Million Lashes adds length and definition without clumping and caking. It’s the perfect daytime mascara.
Long-Wear Lip Lacquer in Off Duty by Smashbox. No need for liner with this stuff because it needs no barrier to stop it from bleeding into the fine lines around your lip line! She stays put. In love with this long lasting, super pigmented formula. It has the pigment of a lipstick, shine of a gloss, and lasting wear of a stain. Easy, beautiful lip in 3..2.. done!
10 minutes later. Voila!
Ok, so I have to share this last piece of info. It’s mucho importante. I typically retouch my images to remove dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles, creases, blemishes, etc. Since visiting my favorite plastic surgeon, Dr. Frank Madda AKA The Wrinkle Whisperer, and starting a new Rodan and Fields skin care regimen (details coming soon!), I haven’t photoshopped my pictures. I am almost 36 years old and I have never felt more confident or more beautiful in my life thanks to a little help from my friends. I will forever be grateful and I will forever share my secrets with you, my sisters. I mean, that’s what sisters are for, right?
When you look good, you feel good. Take some time out of your day for you… because you deserve to look and feel beautiful for the most important person in your world. YOU.
Love it. Live it. Share it.
