For the past three years I have been going to Chicago’s Renegade Art Fair to find amazing jewelry, clutches, candles, handmade soap, and then some! I am a huge sucker for brilliant and well made artisan goods, so when this weekend rolls around each year, I make it a point to get at least three hours of roaming in. Let’s be clear, this is not a “craft show”, this is art. Some you can hang on your wall, some you wear and lots you can give as gifts. It’s an “anything goes” type of fair and I have not once yet been disappointed. There are hundreds of vendors with genius and creative ideas, it’s actually kind of mind blowing. But fear not! There will be another smaller fair before Christmas so if you did not have a chance to get there this past week, I walked the entire thing for you and have for you here, The Best of Renegade Art Fair 2015. But first…some tips.
If you plan on going during the holiday season or next year, here’s how to do it:
– Bring a tote bag to collect your new treasures.
– Collect business cards and go home and pin away. Keep them for future gift ideas.
– If you see something you LOVE and there is only one left, buy it. You’ll be happy you did.
– Chat with the vendors and learn how things are made. You’ll be blown away.
– Create a list of gifts you need. It’ll be a one stop shop, guaranteed.
Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for….The Best of Renegade Fair 2015!!!
I LOVE this wine decanter and glasses. Such a unique and sexy spin on your average glass set. Perfect wedding gift.
These platters would make the perfect house warming gift. Gorgeous and well made. Bingo!
Clutches are a must in my book. The more original the better. This one here is top notch.
Her hand dyed scarves and apparel are beautiful too! Check out her site for so much more!
Truth be told, I have been obsessing over these throw for ages. It’s more of a want than a need and I am often buying gifts for others while I am at the fair. It is on my list. Look how beautiful the alpaca and designs are. All I can imagine is snuggling in one with a good book and some tea. Two cool ass sisters design them and they are created in Peru. Stunning, both the sisters and their creations. Ps. they also make beautiful scarves, pashminas and wraps.
All of these beautiful candles are natural, soy, long lasting and smell delicious. As I walked past her tent, I was smacked with the smell of fall and fell in love with Falling Leaves. It’s sitting on my counter as we speak. If you’re a big candle burner like the TSP sisters, you may want to opt for some soy and natural alternatives.
I am a gigantic fan of this beautiful couple. They make such cool ass and well made clutches and bags. I bought a clutch of theirs three years ago and it goes everywhere with me when I travel because it is so diverse and is THE perfect accessory to almost any outfit. Keep an eye out…I heard a rumor they are thinking about leather backpacks in the near future. Yes, please and thank you! I mean, how cool is their stuff?!
I bought a Glam Rock, rose, knuckle ring three years ago and I am still in love with it. It’s such a simple, yet chic piece of jewelry. Actually, all of Kristen’s work is stunning and super unique. Ummm, can we talk about those purple, quartz earrings below…schwing!
These little freaks are the perfect little kid gift because they are weird and incredibly plush. I just love the colors and vibrancy of them, too. There’s a special little dude getting one from us very, very soon!
What a perfect craft for a perfect fall day! Love this.
There is something so stunning and precise about these wooden creations. From her votive holders to her rolling pins and cutting boards, I am hooked. Just look at the detail! Perfection. If you’re in the mood for excellent furniture, that is her forte…check out her beautiful pieces here.
Glitter and inappropriate words? Sign me up!!! Every day I look at a piece of her art in my shower and it gives me the giggles. I love it. Such a perfect little side gift to add some laughs to the evening. #must
These ceramics are so fun and so colorful. That’s what I love about them, the pop of life they can bring into the room. They make everything from magnets, spoon holders, tumblers, mugs, and so much more! It’s seriously the perfect gift.
I just bought a beautiful black backpack while in Florence and also on my “to buy” list was a brown leather tote, but, no such luck. Well, lo and behold, I think I found the PERFECT one. This brown tote below is insanely beautiful and well made. It’s gorgeous. Jenny makes them all by hand and is the sweetest little lady ever! Check out all those colors options! I hope my dad or The Mister Project are reading this…hint, hint! They’re made with cow leather and are extremely durable and strong. Worth every penny. Check her site for all the design options and so much more!
How frigging cool are these decanters!? And so are the peeps that make them! Something about them and the etchwork totally reminds of The Great Gatsby. They come in all different styles with diffrent spirit names. This would make for the most perfect wedding or engagement gift. Or a perfect gift for The Mister Project….eeeeeek, I hope he’s not reading this. How frigging cool are these?!
Just looking at this tote makes me crave a Chicago style hot dog and I barely eat meat anymore. But seriously, how delicious does that look? Gimme! Need a totally inappropriate and hilarious card…search no further, The Found is at your service. Their stuff is amazing!
We have been using natural soaps for years now and once you go natural, you never go back. They use only the best ingredients that are animal cruelty free and leave your skin feeling soft and moisturized. I HIGHLY recommend you switch if you haven’t already. Five bars for $20? Let’s do this!
If you’re going to do any shopping at these cool ass artisans, don’t forget to tell them that The Sister Project sent ya!
Love it. Live it. Share it.
