“If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit.”
As soon as I read this quote it reminded me of my dad. I know I talk about him a lot on TSP, but I can’t help it. He’s awesome. He’s always been the guy I put high on a pedestal. However, it wasn’t until we created TSP that I realized what a huge source of inspiration he is to me. And this quote, although it is not his, was pretty spot on as to the way he conducts himself on a daily basis. Just last week, I was around the bend in my cube, and I could hear his phone conversation. Without knowing any of the background, I could tell he had some convincing to do. This one he was going to have to earn. There were shards of brilliance and bullshit getting blown all over the place. I perked up in my chair to see how this attempt to make a deal was going to play out. At this stage in the game, it seems rare he doesn’t walk away with the deal he wanted. He is in a Master Class all of his own. The Knife definitely had to work for it and in the end he made his case and finally had the ear of his worthy opponent. (Yeah right.) When the phone hung up, I cheered him on from my desk. You know how this story ends. Ultimately, you can try and dazzle and baffle all you want, but if you don’t believe in you and what you are selling, you ain’t going to sell shit. I believe in me. Do you believe in you?
Love it. Live it. Share it.
