If you can’t tell by now, the Massarella tribe LOVES Halloween. If I didn’t know better myself, you’d think we were a clan of witches or something, but sadly, we are not. We are just a big ass family that has always and will always celebrate the spookiest holiday of them all. One may wonder how or why we came to love October 31st so much. Well, the reason is in fact quite simple – we were raised to. With a mother who loves the macabre and a father who would sit dressed as an old man scarecrow on our front porch and scare the shit out of children and adults, it’s easy to figure out. Apple, meet tree. That is pretty much how it all started, not to mention that my birthday being on October 23 made for some festive birthday parties growing up. Seriously though, I was watching Poltergeist and The Exorcist by ten and obsessed with vampires and ghost stories by eleven. October is my everything and basically Halloween is my grand finale before I ease into the holidays. Please allow me to express my love for Halloween through memes.
One of my earliest memories with my mom is her taking us to see a real pet cemetery in the western suburbs. Why? I have no clue. Apparently it was something she enjoyed and ever since then I have been attracted to them as well. Just the other day I went for a ride to Queen of Heaven cemetery to check something out. Yup, I’m a real creep like that.
PS. If you haven’t seen Stephen King’s Pet Semetary yet….what exactly are you waiting for?
I can also recall begging my mom to take out the Halloween boxes from the crawl space the moment October 1 hit the calendar. We would literally nag her for hours on end until she would find time to crawl and drag out boxes full of Halloween costumes and decorations galore. She made us feel excited and eccentric…I loved it!
Fast forward to my high school years when our family lived in a big ass haunted house. And when I say haunted, I mean there were freaking ghosts hanging out with us. We all experienced super natural moments in that house, none I can ever forget. From footsteps, people shouting your name when no one was home, objects moving to ghostly visits in the middle of the night and doors slamming…you name it, it happened. Just ask the sisters. Oh and when we wanted to scare the shit out of one another, we’d yell that Bloody Mary or the Lady in White was going to get us. Basically this is what would happen:
For the most part, we all felt they were friendly ghosts, but sometimes I felt like this:
All joking aside, I want to be a witch and wear black all day everyday. All the time. But sometimes I need to be normal, although I really feel like this on the inside:
If you see me anytime in the next few days, this is basically me right now.
Plus, I am SO excited that there will be an orange balloon outside of my house this year welcoming over 100 neighborhood kids for trick or treating this year!
Not to mention, what’s better than psychopathic evil kittens and other frightening beasts?
But let’s chat Halloween costumes. The scarier the better if you ask me!
Regardless how you dress up, do it! YOLO!
Look how creative this little dude got with his costume. Brilliant!
Halloween is the best time to binge watch scary movies. I’m not so much into blood and guts as I am the old slasher and slow walking murdering movies.
But we can’t forget about the old classic horror films. Those are some of the best ones ever made! Plus, this handsome devil was the bee’s knees back in the day!
And thank God for Halloween…it’s helping take the edge off some of the political madness taking place these days.
At this point, all politicians seem like a bunch of brain eating zombies!
PS. I know everyone is freaking out over the killer clowns gracing our presence this Halloween season, but we really should give credit where credit is due. The original killing clown…at your service.
Even as I write this post on this cold and rainy day, I feel just like this:
So listen up TSPeeps!
In just a few short days, little ones will dress up as mini monsters, we’ll all share ghost stories over a good glass of red and every scary movie will be playing in rotation. So tune into your inner Halloween self!
Cheers to those that were here before us and that linger in the shadows of the night watching us when we least expect it.
Yikes! That’s spooky! Here’s one to cheer you up.
Wishing you all a very happy, spooky and safe Halloween!
I will see you all in November!!!!!
Love it. Live it. Share it.
