I am not using my voice to talk about what I had planned on The Sister Project today. I need to use my voice to talk about something more significant- the 2016 Presidential Election, and boy oh boy is this far out of my area of expertise. I am not intensely political and actually quite ignorant when it comes to politics. I almost feel uncomfortable writing a political post but I really feel I had to today. I have something to say that is important and crucial. America has spoken. We need to accept this and move forward now. And just so y’all know… This is very difficult for me to act on and say. I am a Democrat. I voted for Hillary. I have two very liberal beliefs that prohibit me from ever voting Republican. I believe in equal rights and I am pro-choice… like die hard on both topics. I have many beautiful friends in the LGBT community who I love and adore and I know many who have chosen to do what they wish with their bodies, I being one of them. I vote Democrat for those reasons. Now, I have in the past always said no matter who wins the election I will respect the President elect. I will respect my President no matter who it is because I am proud and because I have faith in my country. Waking up to the news Trump won the election made that notion close to impossible for me. I, as I am sure many did over the news, shed some tears. But I have faith in my country and faith in the decision that has been made. I have to. I cannot spend the next 4 years being angry and sad. I refuse. I will spend the next 4 years respecting the decision that has been made and maintain hope and faith in our country’s future. I need to set an example for my children and teach them they have a voice and a choice but when it is all said and done it is the majority whose voice is louder and we need to accept it and respect it. I hope we, as a country, are able to unite and move forward in peace and love with tact and class. God bless America.
