That time of year when beautiful celebrities flock the red carpet with the sole intention to dress to impress has finally arrived. Award season has commenced with one of the most prominent awards shows in the biz, The Golden Globes. I literally get giddy when this time of year rolls around. I am a massive fan of fashion, films and controversy when it comes to speeches, so I can happily say that the GG’s brought it this year. With this post I will for the most part cover fashion and only fashion. I wouldn’t want to get anyone’s panties in a gigantic bundle by bringing up any politics. Besides, talking fashion and who wore what, is about a trillion times less painful than discussing anything that remotely has to do with politics. With that being said, I do love a good debate, so please fellow fashion lovers, let me hear your thoughts. We all have a different eye and each of our hearts flutters differently to specific patterns, textures and cuts. Fashion can be riveting or it can be like a bad car accident that you can’t quite turn your eyes away from. Worry not, I’ve covered both. Let’s do this.
Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad Couture gown was one of the best dressed Sunday evening. The detail, femininity, and color of this gown is perfection. If you had the chance to see it on television, you would have seen it freaking sparkle too. It was breathtaking. Oh and so is everything above her neck too. Lily is stunning and everything from her thick brows, her pop of a lip and her hair made this entire ensemble flawless.
And then there is this. I honestly do not understand how a person who has access to any designer in the entire galaxy, decides on a Vera Wang wedding gown. And not just any wedding gown, the ugliest one on the market. It’s just all sorts of awful. The sleeves actually give me nervous diarrhea when I look at them. Although this was a fail for Parker, she has a way of always making a comeback after she hits the red carpet on a low. Let’s hope for a high come the Academy Awards in the event she attends.
Another hit comes from the house of Zuhair Murad! This time Tracee Ellen Ross brought it in this corseted see-through dress. The piece fit her like a glove and perfectly shows off her sexy physique. I loved her hair and lip. However, I feel I would have been obsessed had she channeled Diana Ross and let her hair naturally flow with no ponytail. All in all, she looked badass. Very much a winner’s look.
Ok, here’s the deal. I get that it can be a tricky feat to dress a young celebrity age appropriately. And for the most part, I think they did a job well done with Millie Bobby Brown, who is thirteen. This sweet Jenny Packham dress and the shoes (albeit a bit too shiny for my taste) look lovely on her. Yet, for whatever reason, her hair and makeup make her look kind of like a little granny. I am totally trying to be nice here and not pick on a little kid, but what I’m trying to say is perhaps something a little less mature for a hairdo or even perhaps a sparkly headband of sorts would have tied this all up perfectly. Or perhaps an earring of sorts. I don’t know exactly, but there is something missing.
And I die. Evan Rachel Wood is one bad ass bitch who can rock a tuxedo like I have never seen before. If I didn’t have a girl crush on her before (I think I did) I do now. Top to bottom, bottom to top she killed it in this Altuzarra masterpiece. Her hair? The blouse? The cut? I don’t even know what to obsess over most.
I am unsure what I hate most about this Iris Serban gown. The detail on top does nothing for me, along with the baby pink hue. So perhaps it’s a combination of both? Now, I will tell you what department Carrie Underwood slayed in. The arms department. Holy shit, between her and Jessica Biel they by far have the best triceps and biceps in the biz.
Going from one wacky dress to another, I give you Olivia Culpo in Zuhair Murad. Only this time I love this funky as fuck dress. I completely get lost in her entire look. First I stare at her hair, then admire her perfect make up, eventually I stare at the “x” cut of this dress and then I fall in love with it in it’s entirety. Perhaps because it reminds me of Vincent Van Gogh’s Terrace of a Cafe at Night is why I love it. I don’t know, but I do.
Zoe Saldana is wearing a dress that looks similar to a dress I almost made my bridesmaids wear, only mine was much uglier than this Gucci. For a fashionista who typically brings it to the red carpet, this was quite a disappointment.
This is just a hot photo of Milo Ventimiglia for sister Michelle. You’re welcome, sissy. XO
Now THIS is how old Hollywood red carpet glamour is done. Gina Rodriquez wore this Naeem Kahn flapper halter with absolute perfection. What I love so much about this look is her womanly figure being showcased in this dazzling gown. She looks so strong and so beautiful. But then again, duh, she’s from Chicago.
Emma Stone looks like a starlet in this Valentino, yes. But, it was not my favorite look of the night, in the least. Indeed it is very sparkly and feminine, but I find the stars to be a bit juvenile along with pretty cheesy. I feel like I can see this ensemble on Clare Danes and not dislike it this much. To end, I want to take a bobby pin to those two pieces of hair or would have opted for a down do.
This entire look is a hell yes for me. The color of the sequins on this Bardot dress is a portion of my favorite thing happening here. Throw in the cut and the back-lace and now I am swooning. I love it all.
Umm, this is the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen. Like, in general. Amada Peet, what the hell? Why did you wear this? It is wrinkled and boring. Everything that fashion isn’t.
And here to save the day…..Mandy Moore in Naeem Kahm! Let’s forget about the dress for a moment. She killed it in the hair, makeup and accessory department. She paid homage to the 60’s/70’s with her vintage style part and down do, making her middle part flow beautifully with her cleavage and deep v cut. Without the cape, this dress would have been a snooze. However, with it…it’s a masterpiece on the red carpet.
Ok, uncle! Another wrinkled, boring GD dress. Winona, why?! Why did you and Amanda Peet rob me of my high school dance dresses? Not cool. I’m all about going simple. I can even imagine the same sweet heart cut on top with way less fabric on the bottom. Anything that what is happening here, would have been better. Our editor, Winnie Lee, suspects she may have stolen this from The Rack. It is very possible.
Holy shitballs. Ruth Negga in this custom Louis Vuitton is one of the most majestic sights I have ever laid my eyes upon. It’s as if she combined the 1920’s with her pin curls and the future with this insanely metallic dress and made it work with no questions asked. A part of me wants to rip off that artifact of a bangle, but who knows, maybe it’s some sort of good luck charm, I can look past it. I can scroll up and down on that dress for hours because it’s that mesmerizing. Ruth is flawless.
I hate this dress so much, but for some reason Anna Chlumsky is pulling it off. It’s a combo of the emerald green and black tones that I loathe most. Gem tones really aren’t my thing. The cut does look beautiful on her figure, but I know she could have done a million times better. Maybe if it was all black with a pop of a shoe? Ugh. Or maybe just an entirely different dress all together.
This dress makes me laugh because when I saw Claire Foy accept her award I was freaking out over it. Then when I went to look for photos of it I was all embarrassed. It’s the sleeves. Those puffy (not my favorite word, people) sleeves need to be chopped off immediately. Be gone puffy ones!
Priyanka Chopra got a bad rap for this ensemble, but I think she looks sexy in this Ralph Lauren golden gown. It fit her like a glove showing off her really good cleavage. She gets additional points for her super simple down do and matte red lip. I’d say all in all, she looked stunning.
I think Natalie Portman may have gone Black Swan on us with this yellow gown. It’s as if she took her role to a whole new level and is now actually…Jackie. Typically Portman is known to keep it quite sophisticated and simple, however this dress was a buzzkill. It was designed by Prada and no, not in 1959.
Janelle Monae in custom Armani Privé is hands down one of the most creative, expressive and coolest looks of the evening. This is coming from someone that typically hates the contrast of black and white on a gown, but this is like pure pop magic. Talk about keeping a theme. First she brought it in polka dots then decided some vertical and horizontal lines were more her speed for the after party. Both looks are brilliant, but more than that, they’re inspirational and unique. And that for me, is what fashion is all about. An honorable mention must go to her up do. Lordy I will tell you, when I see crystals and shit in someones hair I want to pass away. But this pearl effect has me freaking out. Brilliance is present on the top of her head as well. Standing ovation.
Everything about this Monique Lhullier screams Drew Barrymore – it’s like a match made in heaven. I do love this metallic gown, but I will say I would have loved an up do for Drew, as she does those so marvelously. Another con, this is not a dress to be photographed at just any angle. From this angle she kills it, head on, it’s not as flattering.
Maise Williams is exquisite in this yellow gown. Although this dress is incredibly simple in theory, she took it to another level, particularly with her up do. Without the silver addition atop her head, this may have passed as lackluster, but no siree-bob! Not at all. Now I am going to spend hours online looking for the same perfect accessory.
Let’s be honest, Guiliana Rancic is a bit of the princess of the ball when it comes to the red carpet. With that comes a shit load of responsibility to bring it. She did so in the super romantic pale pink Rani Zakhem. From the front the dress is spectacular, from the side it is breathtaking.
I gotta say, Travolta’s hair plugs actually look natural this time around. Two thumbs up!
Ok, TSPeeps, don’t be shy. Give it to me straight, whose look did you love and whose did you not love???
Love it. Live it. Share it.
