Sometimes in life, we have to take a moment and reflect. We are all moving at 900 miles a minute and are often being pulled in four different directions. You know the old saying, “so much to do, so little time”. I am drowning in those words as of late and, even though we are warp-speed traveling through life, there are so many small but monumental moments that we need to take pause and reflect on. And, if you are lucky, they are caught on camera.
We have been busy getting holy over at the Anderson household. My kids made their First Holy Communion recently. A treasured moment I will never forget. I loved the whole experience and so did Mia. LOL. Notice a name lacking in that statement? In between church practice and sports, Ryan and I managed to sneak off on a trip with friends to Mexico. Before that, the twins learned to ski in Colorado and are starting to look like real, little athletes. Mia got braces. William is turning out to be a lil’ slugger. A lot of good things are happening. These are all reasons to be happy.
The thought occurred to me. I have thousands of images saved on my phone, however there are a handful that produce the world’s biggest grin whenever I see them. I repeatedly look at the same images over and over and over again. Why? Because, when I see those moments, they make me feel happy. I want to share them with you as they are more than just pictures. They are memories. They have stories.
They. Are. Happy.
Will and his Godfather, “Uncle Cauliflower”, shaking hands on the steps outside the church where he just made his First Holy Communion. Look at the pride and joy on both of their faces! This image makes me happy because it is a reminder that raising strong, kind, independent kids takes more than just the parents. Raising kids takes a village. Will is lucky to have this guy on his side.
This is a shot of Mia and her friend and teammate, Francesca, after a soccer game. They have been playing together since they were four years old. Francesca’s mom and dad have been friends of ours since we were kids and we coach them because we have nothing better to do. LOL. My heart explodes with joy every time I look at this picture because I know what it is like to have friends for a lifetime. Could this be the start of a friend for life for each of them? They could only be so lucky.
This picture makes me want to rocket myself to space because I see a boy falling in love with a sport and that, right there, is euphoric. I know that, before this game, this little guy was praying for sun because “I just want to play baseball mom.”
This is a picture of Mia and her “older” friend, Frannie. Let’s be real, Frannie gets paid to make sure my kids don’t set the house on fire while Ryan and I paint the town red with Frannie’s parents. I feel happy when I see this picture because Frannie is a fine example of what a strong, young lady looks like and if she is who my kid wants to look up to, I say “LOOK UP!”
This picture makes me happy because it is one of the rare instances where my kids don’t look like hobos and, well, their personalities are in full bloom. Sugar and spice!
This is my friend, Jackie and Mia’s friend, Phoebe. This picture takes me to “Swoon City” because I am reminded of the fact that I get to experience these milestone moments with this mama for the next 10 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This right here is Mia and her teammate at soccer practice. You wouldn’t know that because they are in a GD tree. Moments later, the entire team was in the tree. Mia directed it. Why does this make me happy? How could it not? Just look at them.
Mia and Francesca’s nonnos on the sideline on soccer Saturday. I love this picture with all of my heart. Marconi’s Restaurant on Oakley is where they first crossed paths too many years ago to count. This image reminds me of how cyclical life is and how precious moments like these are not to be taken for granted.
Hot husband alert. This is a picture of Ryan while we waited for our flight out of Mexico. He is rumpled and scruffy and ready to get back to our kids and nothing makes me horn..I mean happier than his 5 o’Clock shadow.
My mom. I am happy because I will always have pictures like this to remind me of what love is. True, unconditional, raw love. A love so strong it hurts but the power behind it makes me happy.
My Pig brethren. This picture makes me happy because, for once, I have the best hair in the room and I get to make music with these dudes. They actually make the music, I just hollar into the mic. Want to feel happy too? Come to our next gig!
Two of my favorite people on the planet in a golf cart on an island off of the coast of Mexico. This was a much needed trip as one friend lost her dad only days before. It had been a long road. I know, it seems odd to follow that statement with something happy, but I cant help it. I am happy. I see this picture and I am reminded of how incredibly fortunate we are all to have found each other. We have all been dealt some tough cards these last several years. We are always, without fail, there for each other.
SMILE PRETTY! How in the world could this vision not make you happy?!
Love it. Live it. Share it.
