Being poolside and unicorn rides…well, and frozé. These are a few of my favorite things. A couple weeks ago, we were in Scottsdale for a family reunion and it was hot. Like, real f*cking hot. Knowing we would be poolside the entire weekend, I ran over to Nordstom Rack and picked up a handy-dandy pool accessory for myself to keep me afloat and cool, so as to not melt away. Thanks to the hype on Instagram, these inflatables can go for anywhere between $50-120. Want to know how much mine cost? $16.97. Yup, you read that right. It’s been quite some time since I chilled in a floatable for a couple days straight, but she was the best purchase of my summer yet. She was my ride or die. Whether it was with a margarita or a michelada, together we rode the waves of the relaxing Scottsdale pool scene. You better believe I spent twenty-five minutes deflating her, rolling her into a flat, rectangular shape so I could bring her back to Chicago with me. I could never leave her behind. Never.
Now when it comes to being poolside with my trusty unicorn parked next to my lounge chair, the right beauty products have to be applied so that I do not literally cook in the hot-ass summer sun. Sun protection is numero uno. However, I also like for my lips, hands and body to stay hydrated. Especially in the Arizona dry heat where, if you stay out too long and unmoisturized, you end up looking like Magda from “There’s Something About Mary”. Go ahead, look her up. Yeah, we all want to avoid that at all costs. So, in order to do that, here is what I slather on my face and body:
Mario Badescu Facial Spray: Not only does this little potion of herbs, aloe and rosewater keep your skin misted and refreshed, it smells freaking good and can also be used to set your make up. Two for one.
Trader Joe’s Sunscreen: A report came out at the beginning of summer of which sunscreens are absolute crap–actually causing more harm than good–and which sunscreens actually do what they say. Trader Joe’s SPF 55 got a super high score for being bad ass! I used the entire bottle in three days.
Lanolips: Ok, you don’t even know. It’ll cost you about $15 but this is, hands down, the best lip balm I have ever had in my entire life. I kid you not. No bullshit. It’s balmy and luxurious. I found it in Australia last year and, thankfully, it came to the States not long after. This is my forever and ever lip moisturizer; we will never part ways.
OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil: This stuff saves my nails and cuticles on both my hands and feet. There’s nothing worse than dry fingers and toes… Mmmmm, nope.
Skinceuticals SPF 55 Face: Oh, how I love this sunscreen. It’s lightweight, a little goes a long way and it’s not greasy at all. Most importantly, it get the job done. I often squirt (love that word) a bit into my Ren emollient face lotion and call it a day.
Oh, and if you’re wondering where I got that bad ass Moroccon bag, check out Mashallah in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. Her handmade jewelry and worldly finds will have you shopping for yourself and friends alike! And, to top it off, Mashallah is beautiful inside/out. You’ll want to hang out with her all day.
Now go out and grab your ride or die pool floaty and gear up for the Fourth of July. You’ll want to have all the essentials so you can relax by the pool and sip on some frozés without a care in the world! Happy Summer TSPeeps!
Love it. Live it. Share it.
