Can you believe it’s already August? How? When? Where did July go?! Well…I’ve got some summer musts I need to complete, so you can bet your bottom dollar that I cleared my calendar to get some summer bucket list items checked off last weekend. By that, I mean I planned an entire weekend full of fun sh*t I want to do before the summer ends. Things like pool parties, boat rides and beaches. Oh, and seeing some of my favorite women on the planet. So far, summer has been a blast, but before we know it we’ll be sipping pumpkin spice lattes while wearing the chunkiest sweaters of them all. Now, as much I f*cking worship that time of year, I need to sieze the moment and take care of summer first.
It all started with a boat ride. I caught wind (no pun intended) that my dad was taking his staff out on Lake Michigan so, naturally, I invited myself. If you can’t take mild advantage of being the boss’ daughter at moments like this, when can you?! Plus, I love his staff. My sister and brother both work for him, along with four amazing women, so I knew hopping aboard The Spirit of Chicago was a must. Sure glad I did, here’s what it looked like:
Yes! Nailed this one!
After that stunning adventure on that big-ass boat, it was time for me to surround myself with some of my favorite fellow betches. My DePaul Blue Demons. I love these women with all my heart. You may recognize a couple of these beauties from our spring visit to NYC. We headed to the West Loop’s Forno Rosso for true Italian pizza and aperol spritzes – one of my favorite meals of the summer. Anthony snuck in for a quick hello and a spritz. Party crasher. If you haven’t been to Forno Rosso yet – go. Just do it. PS. Just for the record, these girls are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. Duh. PPS. If you need an aperol spritz stat, here’s how you make one. Cheers!
What is summer if you haven’t been to a pool party?! This is a must for me. We grew up with a pool in the backyard and, back in the day, we threw some legit pool parties. This time around, we hopped on a roof top in River North and watched people get hammered and have a blast.
Sunday called for the beach! Well, sort of. You’ll see. We headed to 31st Street beach which is in the more south side of Chicago. I have never been that far south on the lakeside so I truly had no idea what to expect. Here’s the deal, based on what I saw and experienced, I can’t wait to go back as soon as we possibly can. You guys – the art, the cleanliness, the BEAUTY that are the south side beaches should not be overlooked. Not only was our bike ride incredible, but our random stop at Promontory Point is one of my favorite moments of summer 2017. I kind of don’t want to tell you about it because I feel it’s a bit of a secret spot but, at the same time, it’s my GD job, so here it goes: I felt like I was teleported to a little European watering hole where people dove in to cool off and gather for the afternoon. The water is so clean and this is the thing–it’s not a beach–it’s jump-off, if you will. No sand. Grass and rocks to sit upon and wonderful, happy people watching. Put it on your list. I hear there is a pub by the same name in Hyde Park that we have been told to hit up the next time around. Stay tuned.
Huge nerd coming through, watch out!
And lastly, our first summer harvest has made it to our dinner table. Here’s what was on the menu:
Ahhh, summer. What a love affair I have with it. Sometimes, I feel like I’m cheating on fall because I do love these warmer summer months just as much as I adore the cooler ones. But that’s the thing about Chicago, it has this extremely charming way of making you fall in love with it over and over and over again…
Happy summer, lovers! Get outside and let it all sink in. xo
Love it. Live it. Share it.
