Anthony and I recently traveled to Mackinac Island and let me tell you…it was frigging awesome! I knew nothing about this magical little island beyond the no car rules. Upon arrival I saw this:

It doesn’t get much better than a welcome like that! No vehicles are allowed on the island as to not startle the horses, so if you have a bike definitely bring it! Won’t make you feel so guilty after all the yummy food, drink and fudge you’ll eat!

Where to stay on Mackinac Island:

We stayed at Hotel Iroquois, which was equally as adorable as the island itself. PS. I for sure think we had some invisible guests staying with us, at least I was hoping we did!

The island is eight miles all the way around so naturally we hopped on our bikes and explored the cutest island in the midwest. This is just a glimpse of the beauty that is this little gem.

What to do on Mackinac Island:

There are so many adventures to go on while visiting the island. The Arch Rock and the view from atop were beyond breathtaking.

Yes, this is all in Michigan!

Let’s take a moment to talk about the sunsets and Michigan skies. Holy cow! Cotton candy anyone?

These colors are mind-blowing, right?! Come to the island just to see these paintings in the skies.

There are definitely must do’s on the island.

Hiking or biking so don’t forget comfortable walking or hiking shoes. These Merrel hiking shoes are where it’s at!

Don’t forget to visit The Grand Hotel! It is super old fashioned and there are tons of spots to hang out and have a drink or read a book.

And last but definitely not least, I took the advice from a friend and I shall pass it onto you TSP-ers. Go to the bar The Pink Pony and have a Rum Runner on the patio, both the view and the drink are outstanding!

Only six hours from Chicago and an easy ferry ride from Mackinaw City…this island is a MUST and totally worth the ride! The sisters and I will have to take an adventure here someday very soon!

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
