Let me just start by saying I have loaned this book to three friends so far and I had to re-buy my copy because one friend loved it so much I let her keep it. When someone says, “this book changed my life”, you can’t really ask for it back. Every woman, not just moms, should own this book. It was written by Vanessa Palmer, mother of two, yogi, artist, full-time career woman, beautiful writer, and inspiration.

She does this amazing job of covering all aspects of life. Love, holistic lifestyles, forgiveness, gratitude, eating habits, motherhood, meditation, beauty, inner peace and how to truly live a beautiful life. It is extremely touching and will have you reflecting at times as you read her thoughts and past experiences and how they relate to you.

Vanessa also has meditations prepared throughout the book. If this is new to you, it’s a fabulous introduction! It has been proven that meditation is wonderful for the mind and body, can prepare you for sleep and rejuvenate your brain for creativity. It is one of the healthiest things a person can do. Did you know our most successful as well as spiritual people do it daily?  There is a reason! There is also a glossary at the end of the book to help with yoga and meditation vocabulary for those just beginning to explore.

Om for the Mom reminds you to slow down, breath, take in all life has to offer and the beautiful things surrounding us. It makes you reflect on situations in life that are or have been challenging and how to move forward in a positive direction. Oh, and I love her quotes in the book… and the art! I am a huge sucker for quotes!

A couple of my favorites.

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
–Ann Wigmore

“Holding on to anger and resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”
-Buddha

“Elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside”
-Chanel

And for the moms.

“No one will ever know the strength of my love for you, after all…you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.”
-Kristen Proby
I read OM for the Mom right after my wedding while honeymooning in Tulum. Getting married is beautifully amazing and weird all at the same time. Like my friend, I took away some life-changing ways from this here little lady bible. I hope you get a chance to read it and enjoy it as much as I did.

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
