What up, TSPeepers! Could not be more excited about today’s post. I am in the mood to kick my own ass and get focused on my health! I have been researching, talking, and trying new things. I am stoked, to say the least, and excited to share with you the most recent little elixir I have discovered. Thank you to my very knowledgeable, health nut, and yogi extraordinaire neighbor and friend, Sandy, for this liquid gold recipe.  Today, we are talking “Golden Milk” and why we all should be adding it to our daily regimen.

Golden Milk’s main ingredient is turmeric and this is a MUST in our daily diet. Turmeric comes from east Asia, has been around FOREVER, and its main component is something called curcumin which exhibits more than 600 health benefits. Basically, this is a no-brainer and making this drink is a quick, easy, and delicious way to get turmeric in your system without slaving over some crazy-ass recipe that is going to require lots of time and ingredients.  Check out all of the benefits of turmeric:

  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-carcinogenic
  • promotes digestive health
  • high blood pressure
  • brain function
  • memory
  • natural liver detoxifier
  • boosts immunity
  • help with skin conditions
  • weight management

There are so many more benefits than what you see here, but you catch my drift. And, get this, when you combine pepper with turmeric you increase your body’s absorption of turmeric’s properties by 2000%. The hypochondriac in me is screaming, “YES PLEASE!”

Recipe for Golden Milk

The Sister Project

1/4 c. turmeric powder

1/2 c. filtered water

1/2 tsp. black pepper

The Sister Project

To make the paste:

Put all of the ingredients into a sauce pan over high heat. Cook and stir constantly until it turns into a paste. This doesn’t take long at all. Place the paste in a jar, let cool, and then refrigerate. I put my paste in one of these.

To make the Golden Milk:

In a small pan heat the following;

1 c. almond milk

1/2 tsp. turmeric paste

1 tsp. coconut oil

honey

Whisk until hot and drink. This is best before bed but can totally be consumed cold. (If you are in a pinch, I say make a cold shooter and down the hatch with it.)

HI! Where do you recommend buying the turmeric powder? I’ve seen it at Trader Joes in the spice aisle…is this high enough quality? I’ve been looking for a way to introduce turmeric into my life and this looks purrrfect.

    THANKS MICHELLE!

Yes Allison! You are so WELCOME! I thought the same thing when I learned about it! It has been one of those things I was wanting to incorporate, but I could not find a practical recipe. I knew some Indian dish would have been a one time thing. I use the turmeric from Trader Joe’s. It was what my friend recommended and what I thought wouldn’t go far will last quite a bit. It’s delicious. Enjoy!

Thanks for the recipe! I’ve made it the last few nights and it makes me sleep like a rock! Not sure if that’s a normal side affect, but I’ll take it! Xo

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
