Our good friends Matt and Kim (just like the band) moved out to Manhattan Beach for the first time back in 2006. So like any sane person, when said friends invite you to come visit them in California, you go! And then you keep going as often as you can. I’ve been visiting this great couple ever since they came out west by way of Chicago and have been lucky enough to be a little house guest from sleeping on the couch in there first beachy apartment to just recently staying at their beautifully renovated Manhattan Beach home. I was so excited to see their new home because Kim would send me ideas, colors, swatches, interior inspiration and tell me all about the cool ass things she was doing to their first, official home on the west coast. I’m a huge sucker for texture and mixed elements and she did an awesome job of tying in a beachy yet sophisticated feel to the house. From coral accents and hints of turquoise to beautifully crafted wooden tables and grasscloth wallpaper, this home is a stunning, well balanced mixture of beachy, earthy influences with a grown up spin to it. Hues of blues and grays with a touch of metallic details make up much of their beautiful furniture and pillows while earth tones and hues of brown bring another natural element to their lovely home. It’s as cozy as it is beautiful.
Here are many swatches Kim toyed with and pondered over.
Some of her final products.
Like any good hostess, she has a jewelry dish in the bathroom for guests. Such a perfect way to tie in the beach theme.
And how adorable and quaint are these little 3D fish tile. Perfect for the nursery bathroom.
These coral accent pieces are my favorite!
I am obsessed with wallpaper and grasscloth is no exception! Look at all of this texture. It’s so natural and earthy.
Loving this gorgeous window in the master bathroom.
Baby Ben’s nursery is a combo of gray elephants and white furniture with a modern twist.
And to top it off, a beautiful white picket fence with gorgeous, vibrant flowers to grace the front yard and to welcome visitors.
Although it was a quick stay at their lovely home, we look forward to going back and enjoying more time with our Cali friends and their little, sweet man.
I think I know where she got some of her inspiration….
