In celebration to Lollapalooza this weekend, the sisters and The Mister Project are compiling their favorite albums from the 90’s. Did anyone say Dee-Lite????
Dave Matthew’s Band – Under The Table and Dreaming Loved them in high school and still to this day. Favorite DVB album, by far. Satellite and Ants Marching and a Miller Lite.
Sarah McLachlan – Touch My uncle gave me this CD. It got me through lots of hardship and teenage decisions I had to make. “Should I take my retainer out? Or should I leave it in?” That was the question. This album and Surfacing are my favorites. I think she is so talented. And a jacked yogi.
Indigo Girls – Rites of Passage The choir geek in me shared many a song with my besties trying our best to harmonize Galileo like The Indigo Girls. #wasnthappening
Blues Traveler – Four Love this band. Love this record. Hook may be my all time favorite song of all times.
Deee-Lite – World Clique I used to shake my little ass to this album all day and all night.
Wilson Phillips “I know this pain. Why do you lock yourself up in these chains. No one can change your life except for you.” Um. When something happened and my heart hurt, I would put this album on, cry, sing, and look in the mirror. I gave it my all.
The Black Crowes – Shake Your Money Maker Hard To Handle. This is my song. This is my anthem. This is my go to karaoke song and I am really effing good at it.
Alanis Morisette – Jagged Little Pill Obsessed with this album. Every frigging song. You Oughta Know? Perfect? I mean, this broad was majorly pissed off and bitter.
Aerosmith – Get A Grip Michelle thought I was such a freak listening to this CD because it has nipples all over it. She was such a square. This is when I began my love affair with Steven. I love his skinny little ass. Crazy and Amazing played over and over and over again. And the videos?????
No Doubt – Tragic Kingdom I was obsessed with the album from start to finish. Gwen Stefani’s old fashioned hair style yet punk-ish ensembles did me in as a 13 year old.
Moby – Play Where do I even begin with this album. To this day it is still one of my favorites of all time favs and not just because it was on in the car the first time my best friend showed me how to smoke grass in her sweet mustard yellow VW station wagon. These days I listen to it while I travel and teach yoga.
En Vogue – Funky Divas I loved these chicks! They were (and still are) so beautiful, strong and empowering. I would day dream about lip-synching to Free Your Mind in a gorgeous, over the top drag queen like costume..oh, I still do that.
The Mister Project
Another Bad Creation – Coolin’ at the Playground Ya Know! Before I found A Tribe Called Quest I found these punks. Oh and then I found myself draped in baggy jean overalls performing “Iesha” on stage with my four friends at our school talent show. My dad was smart enough to capture and keep on VHS.
Nirvana – Nevermind There was no avoiding the effect it had on boys our age at the time. I didn’t understand everything he was saying, but just knew that I was obsessed. Still am. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” will go down as one of the simplest and best music videos of all-time.
Pearl Jam – Ten Eddie Vedder could do no wrong and his voice was something we hadn’t ever heard before. That same voice also serves as a way for me to annoy Midsis with my impressions of his sometimes inaudible garbled singing, as I don’t think Eddie had the same effect on her.
Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral When I first saw the video for “Closer” it scared the absolute shit out of me (still does kind of) but I couldn’t look away. The album scared me too – why the millipede??? But the fact that “I want to F#$k you like an animal, I want to feel you from the inside” was being played everywhere and became so mainstream showed the impact of this album and their music.
Dr. Dre – The Chronic My mom barely let me cross the street, but it didn’t stop me from me listening to this on repeat and just loving it. This coupled with the release of Boyz in the Hood was big, even for a little white nerd and his friends hanging out in the ‘burbs causing minimal amounts of trouble.
Love it. Live it. Share it.
