I had the worst writer’s block this week. I could not for the life of me come up with a blog topic. I think my mind is already on summer vacation. That and I happen to be the worlds worst procrastinator. This time it bit me in my ass. I found myself still searching for this weeks blog topic late Wednesday night. I needed some inspiration, so I did what all bloggers do, I began to skim all of Pinterest, Bloglovin and Instagram hoping for a little zing to get me going. Nothin. I found myself flipping through all of my phone pics. Suddenly I realized my next blog post was right here, right in the palm of my hand. I guess it had not occurred to me how many cool ass activities my kids and I had shared this summer. We really took advantage of all that the city and this amazing summer had to offer and we lived it up! We rode trains and boats, climbed 2 story towers at an incredible park and saw home runs and fireworks at US Cellular. We rocked it this summer in Chicago and this is my Round Up of the fun we had. Enjoy!
All Aboard! – I have said it before and I will say it again, until my twins turn 7, there will be no greater, FREE form of entertainment, than the BNSF line to Union Station. Whether we take the train just to ride it for the heck of it or we commute like city slickers for a day spent in the city, I love it, the kids love it and drinking is allowed. Next stop…
Maggie Daley Park – This brand new, amazing park is the greatest park in all the land…Chicagoland, and if you go there and your kid doesn’t have fun, well, then your kid is a weenie. Maggie Daley park has everything from climbing walls and skating ribbons which are frozen over in the winter for iceskating, to ridiculously cool climbing towers, splash pads, giant swings that look a pinch like Thai Baskets, mini golf, enchanted forests and the city skyline as the backdrop. Pack a lunch or grab an ice cream on your walk to your next adventure while you are there. This park is a must see. We can’t wait to go back!
Set Sail On A Tall Ship – It isn’t every day you get to take a ride on a real life tall ship. Who knew Chicago had their very own Tall Ship, called The Windy? Well now you do and the tours go all day during the summer season, available for boarding right off of Navy Pier. Whether you are in the mood for a Pirate’s cruise around the lake or something a bit more cerebral, and funny, the architectural tour could not have been more fun and the kids got to wear mustaches. Did I mention you can enjoy a libation while you set sail? Be sure to print your tickets before you go!
The Brookfield Zoo and The Brand New Hamill Family Wild Encounter Exhibit – I love the zoo! Sorry Lauren. I have frequented this establishment more times than I can remember, and I have got to say, Brookfield done did it with the new and improved kids petting zoo, now called the The Hamill Family Wild Encounter Exhibit. If you are into petting Pygmy goats and Wallabys or perhaps you would like to feed a parakeet in the new state of the art aviary, you are going to love this spot! Be sure to bring some coins and singles so you can feed the animals!
America’s Favorite Past Time – There is something so American about baseball and if you can top off that experience with a ball park dog, a home run, and some fireworks then I’d say summer is complete. This summers baseball game will be one that is forever engrained in my memory, because it was the first homer my kids got to see and their face said it all. Shock and awe. “Mom, they hit the ball out of the park!” Go White Sox!
We are lucky to live near one of the most incredible cities in the world. The options are endless when it comes to having fun and you don’t have to break the bank. It is safe to say, fun was had by all and the bucket list has been checked.
LOVE IT! LIVE IT! SHARE IT!
