Ryan, the kids and I just got back from our vacation in #pureMichigan. I honestly think I may have cracked up if I didn’t get that time to relax, refresh and step away from life, which, at times, seems almost too much to bear. When I look at this image, it reminds me of the opportunities I have to escape so that I am able to come back, ready to conquer the world—-along with all of its blessings and challenges. I am grateful and am very aware of the privileges I have in life. I can’t even believe I am going to quote this person right now, but I am. A couple weeks ago, I was doing my morning meditation with Oprah and Deepak. Oprah was reflecting on a time in her life when she endured great struggle. (See, even Oprah goes through stuff.) Lucky girl happens to have Maya Angelou as a mentor. She shared a conversation she had with this brilliant human during a very hard time in her life. Maya’s advice to Oprah resonates with me every single day. Maya asked Oprah after she finished sharing her woes, “Have you said ‘thank you’?” (I am thinking, “Thank you?! What the heck for? A bunch of bullshit?!”) Maybe this Maya Angelou chick isn’t all she is cracked up to be. Oprah was thinking the same thing, she said, “Why would I say thank you?” Maya left Oprah with these words. “Within every cloud there is a rainbow.” And there it was, my “aha” moment. At times, life mimics Mother Nature. Sometimes, the weather brings storms, thrashing winds and rain so hard it hurts, but it doesn’t last forever. Eventually, the storm passes, clouds disappear and the sun shines through. I swear, just today, as I was walking down the streets of Chicago to my office, the sun shined on me brighter than it ever has before. Was it a sign? You bet your sweet ass it was! I started to grin wider than normal at 7:00 am on a Monday morning and I said, “Thank you. Thank you, for those days I just had near the beaches and bonfires. My battery is re-charged and I am grateful.”
