pumpkin smoothie

Anyone that knows me knows that I am OBSESSED with anything fall. Add pumpkin to the equation and I am extra obsessed. Let’s put it this way, if I could live in a world that is all fall all the time, I would. Can you imagine?! Gourds galore, pumpkin everything, spooky movies, that perfect crisp in the air, crunchy leaves, chunky sweaters, dark nail polish, I can go on and on!!!! But I’ll stop, even though I don’t want to. With that being said, I have implemented my love for all things fall to my smoothie regiment. I am a firm believer that you are what you eat. Sometimes it’s hard to get all the good things you need to protect your body and mind in one meal, so I have resorted to creating smoothies that include all the essentials I need. Recently, I transformed Michelle’s Golden Milk into a smoothie and with autumn pretty much in full swing, I added a pumpkin twist to it…and it.is.delicious!!! There are so many health benefits to my Feel Good Fall Smoothie you are going to freak out as if you just found Michael Meyers hiding in your closet! AH! Ok, buckle up buttercups and get your pumpkin puree ready, because this is the best fall smoothie you will ever have!

I found this pumpkin puree at Target and I LOVE it. It’s smooth, it’s not in a can, which is extra cool and it’s organic. Yes, please! Did you know pumpkin is not just yummy, but super good for you too? Here’s how it does a body good:

– it’s a good source of fiber, so it aids in digestion and helps keep you full

– contains iron, which helps protect the immune system

– it’s an excellent source of Vitamin A, which also boots the immune system and helps keep your eyes, bones and teeth healthy

A fall smoothie wouldn’t be a fall smoothie without some essential spices. I make sure to add turmeric on just about anything that I can because it is so good for you. Turmeric has been claimed to help fight inflammation and could possibly help fight certain cancers. There are also further studies being done to see what type of effects it has to help protect the brain. People have been using it for centuries for some reason, that’s for sure!

Next up is cinnamon…another autumn must! First off, because of it’s warm flavor, it can help satisfy cravings for sweets. Sign me up! It can also help reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and possibly enhance cognitive processing.

If you want to jazz up your smoothie a touch more, be sure to pick up Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice the next time you’re there. Great for an at home pumpkin spice latte as well!

Hemp milk is my everything! I have since stopped buying almond milk because it’s basically water and like four whole almonds. Give me a break…I’ll be making my own soon and I’ll keep you posted. Anywho, back to hemp milk. It is extra good for your body, especially the ole’ noodle. You see, it is packed with amino acids which are helpful in combating cardiovascular disease as well as repairing brain tissue. It has also been claimed to perhaps enhance memory and delay the onset of cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. It contains calcium and magnesium and is also a good source of phosphorous. PS. it’s vegan too!

Who would have thought that pure maple syrup has some legit health benefits, it’s surprisingly really good for you! Basically, it’s like adding antioxidants to your smoothie…antioxidants that help the skin, mind and body! The yummy brown syrup also contains zinc and magnesium which can help ward off the common cold and protect your immune system. Say no to sugar and artificial sweeteners and YES to pure maple syrup. Plus, it tastes oh so delicious.

Don’t forget to grab yourself some organic bananas! This is some goof stuff for a pre-workout smoothie because bananas are high in potassium, which help prevent muscles from cramping. Or maybe have this smoothie after a workout. Bananas are chuck full of carbohydrates so they help refuel and keep you energized. Hold up! We’ve got vitamin C coming your way too!

I love chia seeds. They are super good for you and I like how they get all gelatinous after hanging out in the smoothie for a couple minutes. Plus, whoa! Chia seeds are jam packed with nutrients including fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium and protein. Sock it to me!

This smoothie is so delicious it’s almost bizarre it’s as good for you as it is. Give this Feel Good Smoothie a go, you will not be sorry, you will be addicted. ENJOY TSPEEPS!

Feel Good Fall Smoothie:

1 cup non dairy milk (I use Hemp Milk)

1/2 – 1 cup pumpkin puree

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 organic banana

1 teaspoon maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon pumpkin spice

1 cup of ice (more or less…depending on the desired texture)

1 teaspoon of chia seeds (optional)

Add all ingredients (besides the chia seeds, mix those in at the end) into your blender, nutri bullet, ninja, what have you and blend away! Drink chilled and enjoy! XO

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
