I’m BAAAAaaaaaaccccckkkk. It has been far too long since I have come to you with beauty recs. I’m sorry, TSPeeps. I took some time to do a little research and get my mojo back. Honey, I am back with a vengeance. I am going to get your fine selves looking finer in no time.
Now, you best be listening because what I have for you here today is going to change your frigging lives. Like literally change the way your skin looks and feels. No? You don’t believe me? Fine. Be dumb. The rest of y’all are going to reap the unbelievable benefits of this insanely simple little do dad. This right here is going to change the way your skin looks, feels, ages, wears makeup, and holds moisture. Dead skin be gone and renewed skin, welcome. We have been waiting for you.
My mother used this product for as long as I can remember. It is beyond basic and kind of vintage. Women in the 60’s and 70’s used these things to deep cleanse their faces. Bo Derek was quoted saying she used them to keep her skin feeling smooth and looking youthful. I am sure many of you young TSPeeps are wondering who Bo Derek is. Google her. She is a geezer now but a hot geezer at that. See for yourselves. Ugh. So hot.
In her heyday she was the “it” girl and basically everyone wanted to either eff her or be her. I’ll pretty much believe anything she has to say about looking good. Back to me, though. I began using it in my early 20’s and just recently brought it back into my daily skin care regimen because my skin was acting a fool and something had to change. Well, I went back into my beauty archives and found exactly what I needed. What we ALL need. The game changer. Why, oh why, did I ever stop using these bad boys? What am I talking about? Facial cleansing sponges. Yep. They are mildly abrasive and deep cleaning. Basically, they remove dead skin. Dead skin needs to be removed because the only purpose it serves on our faces is total garbage. Dead skin causes your skin to appear dehydrated, dull, rough and aged. Like I said, garbage. Here’s the deal, exfoliation serves a great purpose for all of us but a greater purpose for those of us who are interested in preventative skin care. I am talking 30+ers. Age not only slows down our libidos and our driving but also the process of cell rejuvenation. In laymen’s terms, getting older sucks and it slows down the skin renewal process. Stay with me here, this is major. Our bodies begin to have a difficult time shedding the old skin making the new, fresh skin that we want to see in the mirror further away from where we want it to be. Alas, the facial cleansing sponge comes in to play. This sweet little stinker’s purpose is to remove that dead skin that won’t move its old tired rear end out of the way for our beautiful, new skin to take the stage. There’s more. Did you know dead skin can be the cause of your clogged pores and blemishes? Oh, yeah. That kaka builds up and BOOM. The result? A barrier and an excess of oils causing blackheads and acne. I speak the truth. Facial exfoliation kind of needs to become a part of your mandatory daily routine. Unless, of course, you are happy with your old dead skin barrier which makes you look like a California Raisin with blackheads. That’s what I thought. Proceed.
I use my cleansing sponge once a day. Just once, people. We want to actually keep some skin on our faces. You can get the product in two different strengths. Regular or Sensitive. I use the regular one. As I mentioned a little earlier, the sponge is abrasive. It’s purpose is to remove dead skin so it needs to be rough. I exfoliate in the mornings because I have a different cleansing regimen in the evenings (you can read all about that here). Here’s what you need to do: Grab your sponge and your favorite gentle cleanser. Right now I am digging Purpose gentle cleansing wash. My dermatologist introduced me to it a million years ago and it’s wonderful. I throw a little water on my face, apply my cleanser to the sponge and then gently exfoliate by massaging the soapy sponge in a circular motion into my skin. Let’s not get raw now. You do not want to over do this. Some people have reviewed it saying it is too rough for their faces. You control the pressure, dudes. It’s called self control. Simply do this process once, gently, all over your face and put the thing down. Rinse your face, pat dry, and do your skin care thing from here. You will be in awe after just one use. Your bare skin will glow and appear brighter and tighter. Your moisturizers will penetrate your skin better and your frigging makeup? You are going to freak out when you see how incredible your makeup wears.
This right here is my bare skin immediately after exfoliating. Not bad for half a geezer, eh?
Lastly, there are a ton of different facial cleansing sponges on the market. I have tried several and I am kind of obsessed with a generic Walgreens brand sponge at the moment. It could be a matter of convenience but either way it’s great. Like I said, this is a super basic product so you don’t need to go all out and spend any more than 10 bucks.
I literally cannot wait to hear all of your rave reviews. I love white or pink if you want to send flowers.
