7 Rules of Life

I first found the “7 Rules of Life” while on my honeymoon a little over two years ago. As with all life transitions, getting married can be the most amazing moment in life, but it can also be a bit stressful. So after having a beautiful destination wedding in Mexico with our wonderful family and friends, this list (along with Om for the Mom) was the perfect thing to read as I laid on the beach with my new forever man. I needed these reminders and I often refer back to them to keep myself in check. They are, without a doubt, excellent rules for an awesome life and a happy mindset.

If we all were to follow this list, I think it’s fair to say we would all be a lot happier, a little less stressed, a bit more optimistic and giving a lot less sh*t about what others think or do. Doesn’t that sound utterly beautiful? I mean think about it, “what others think of you is none of your business”. I LOVE this one. Specifically, because I used to often over analyze things I would say to people. Was it weird? Am I weird? (PS. I am.) Should I not have said that? Will they think I’m crazy? I mean, doesn’t that sound like a hoot?! F that. Those days are dead. I’m not concerned if someone judges me or thinks I’m weird because it’s not my problem and it’s way too tiring. We all have way too much on our hands to be worried about what others think of us. Capito?

I’m also a huge fan of #6 because it’s incredibly true. Only I can make the shift in my perspective and life to create a world of happiness for myself. Naturally, outside resources will aid in this process, but it’s up to me to gather the proper resources to get there. We are all in charge of our own happiness. When I find myself in moments of sadness or funks of anxiety, the sooner I dig myself out of there, the better. Once I’m out of it and seeing clearly again, I realize how much more fun life is when the decision to be happy is made.

Although I think this list is nearly complete and perfect…I would add one more thing to it. Meditate. Everyday. That is all. I’ll stop preaching now and I’ll go to practice myself. XO

Take a moment to peruse this list today. Maybe it will inspire you to do something different and more badass this week to make your life beautiful. Which is your favorite rule of life…and why?

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
