Ok, this may not be an O’Bomb or a Sake Bomb, but I swear it is just as good and will get you healthy hammered. Here’s the deal, as you go through life you realize you need to do certain things to keep yourself at your healthiest. Knowing that my mom has dementia, I look at it head on and try to learn what the best things are I can do for myself. What do I need to take out and what do I need to add to my daily intake? That is the question. Seeing as I cannot live in a GD bubble, I do as much research as I can to help myself and my body out. Over the past few years, I have taken several things out of my diet (definitely not wine) and have added some badass things into it. After finding some amazing blogs, cookbooks and delicious restaurants/shops, I have picked up a few staples along the way. Like that one time I went to Whistler and found one of the best quinoa bowl dressings ever known to man! You want this in your life, trust me. Go here. So, with out further ado, here is yet another kitchen staple, which I like to call, The Ginger Turmeric Health Bomb.
Back in November I had a severe cold and respiratory infection. Seriously? Am I 80? So at a point of desperation, I put my hot mess of a self in my car and drove to the nearest juicery where I discovered the most glorious shot in all the land. It was a turmeric ginger shot that literally wiped out my cold when I was sure I was going to meet my maker. I chugged that little fella and I swear, within 12-24 hours, I was feeling alive again. Hallelujah!!! Ok, now let’s get to why this is a staple in our kitchen on a daily basis.
First reason, because it’s refreshing and delicious.
Second, turmeric curcumin is known to be an excellent support to the brain, immune system and joints. OK! Sign me up. I mean, there must be a reason they have been consuming this beautifully colored spice in India for all of these years. Knowing how well it could possibly fight brain diseases and inflammation (among many other a$$hole health issues), I am now a loyal servant to it. I worship turmeric. Throw in some ginger and I am done for it. Ginger works in kicking an awful cold’s butt, is helpful with hangovers, nausea, morning sickness, menstrual pain and can totally help with digestion issues. Echinacae is also invited to the party. Another strong fighter against colds, germs and other super gross infections. I can drink this concoction all day, everyday, but the good news…a little will do ya plenty! I take a shot of this every day. After my espresso, it’s the next thing I do in the morning, each morning.
Ginger Turmeric Health Bomb
2 eyedropper of turmeric oil
1 eyedropper of echinacae oil
1 big juicy lemon – skin off
1 big juicy apple
3 inches of peeled ginger (or more if you can handle the kick)
1 teaspoon of black pepper – to help boost the effects of the turmeric curcumin (I drop straight up peppercorn balls into my shot)
1 teaspoon of camu camu powder (optional)
Juice the lemon, apple and ginger. Add in the turmeric, echinacae, black pepper and camu camu and use either a whisk or a hand blender to mix it all up. This will make about a week’s worth for one person. Place in a mason jar and refrigerate. Shake it like you mean it before you pour and have a shot a day! Cheers! P.S. I buy my oils at Whole Foods, but you will also be able to find them at many health food stores and online.
TSPeeps, what are your daily healthy habits? I love stealing ideas, so please let me know.
Love it. Live it. Share it.
Thnx Lauren. I’m definitely going to start my day this way!
Yes! And let me know how you like it. It’s intense for some at first, but you can totally vary and play with the amounts of each ingredient. Thanks for checking out the blog. XO
I just started making this, Lauren, after hearing you talk about it again on the podcast. My question for you is how do you juice the apple and the lemon first? I threw everything into my Vitamix and it didn’t quite get to the consistency that it is in your picture. I still shot it like a champ today, just a little more thick!
Hi Jenna, I straight up threw them in my Breville juicer. That’s the only way to get that juice consistency. But holy crap, you are a champ!
