Time Machine Juice Cleanse Review

After the holidays I had to make a few changes to my lifestyle. Like most of us have to do. Basically,I needed to stop drinking so much. The holidays make me feel like a total booze hound. That and a gluttonous little piglet. I literally use the holiday season as an excuse to eat and drink everything in sight. Once January hit, I cut out drinking during the weekdays (I know, it’s a bummer) as well as went back to my days and dinners of cleaner eating. Things more like green veggies and a shit load of water and things less like Rumchata and Christmas cookies. I mean, seriously.

The reset button was being pressed, but I needed one more thing to give my body a moment to chill. A juice cleanse. I’ve done a three day cleanse making my own juice, it was fine. It certainly wasn’t the best experience as I was having terrible headaches and was incredibly fatigued and very much bitchy. This time around I decided to go for one-day juice experience, but in an effort to like this adventure a bit more, I was leaving it up to the professionals. I went with Time Machine Juice to help in my effort to get my ass back in gear. I had had some of their juices before, so I knew what I was getting myself into. Basically, delicious combinations of things from the earth in a glass bottle. Here’s the deal, Anthony and I are obsessed with this coffee shop on Division in Wicker Park called Caffe Streets. Go and get their turmeric latte and grab a bottle of Time Machine juice. It’s a cool ass wife and husband duo who run the joint. Darko, the husband, is the coffee expert and Jelena, the wife, is the juice expert. Genius, I know. So here’s how the cleanse went down.

The one day cleanse consisted of six juices and one shot. The juices ranged from a green juice, Time Out, packed with green leafy veggies and ginger to a vibrantly orange juice, Eye Spy, made of turmeric, pineapple and carrots. That was my absolute favorite of the juices. The flavors of each juice consist of anywhere between three to seven ingredients. Call me crazy, but you can literally taste every single vegetable or fruit within each bottle. It’s actually shocking at first because you take a sip and get a little mind blown by it. It’s also precisely why I will do this cleanse again. When you get a little bummed out that you’ve almost finished a bottle you know it’s a good sign. I’ve drank a lot of juice in this big, beautiful city and I can say without hesitation that this is the best cold pressed juice I’ve had yet. When you can literally taste each element, you know it’s made with top notch produce and some how it’s also perfectly rationed. It was basically like drinking six juicy meals. Oh, wait. I haven’t even mentioned my the most incredible moment of the one day cleanse. Two words: Go Nuts. Three words: Holy shit balls. This was hands down one of the yummiest things I have ever had in my life. This liquid dessert is a perfect and I mean, perfecta , a combination of cashew, raw unpasteurized almonds, dates, vanilla bean and pink Himalayan salt. I would do the cleanse again just to chug one of those.

The morning after my one day of juiciness my palette was on top of it’s game. I took one sip of espresso and was blown away by how good my little Nespresso pod was.  It seemed strong to me. I rarely think espresso tastes strong. I also prepared my favorite at home grain free parfait. I use Greek yogurt, nut granola and strawberries. Again, I was shocked by how sweet the yogurt was…and not in a great way. It bugged me a bit that something I eat so regularly seemed so sweet. Made me think a bit about what I should be consuming daily. I ended up switching my parfait to an Ezekiel toast topped with almond butter, my nut free granola and sliced banana. Ummm, world’s best switcheroo known to man. Clearly, when deprived of food for even just a day, it revitalizes your sense of taste and perhaps helps you tweak your diet in the long run. It did me. My goal wasn’t to lose weight, it was simply to press a little reset and give my tummy a breather from the holidays. It worked.

With that all said, I would probably do the three day cleanse one day. Can’t beat three Go Nuts! Like I mentioned earlier, go to Caffe Streets and try a Time Machine juice. You’ll see what I’m talking about. For more on the juices, flavors and cleanse, check this out.

Here are the six juices I drank and currently want more of. The colors? Freaking stunning.

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
