Dear William,
The day you were born you stole my heart and I vowed that day I would do my very best to raise you to be confident and kind with an understanding that hard work is the key ingredient to success. You are fortunate to have two parents that both share that philosophy, but you won’t really know what I mean until you experience hard work and its fruits for yourself. These days, I believe your confidence is in full bloom and sometimes I think you still see John Cena’s reflection in the mirror. I love that about you. My heart swells when we are driving in town and you see a friend and can’t help but roll your window down to greet them. If I had a dime for every time a parent called or texted me to let me know they had seen you in school and you went out of your way to greet them, well, I’d have a lot of dimes. Good boy. You will find that the simplest of courtesies will get you far in life, but those are qualities that will only help. You need to be committed to working hard at everything you do and stand strong in the face of adversity. You see, life isn’t always going to be unicorns and rainbows, or in your case, Minecraft, Packer wins and Nerf wars. Hardships are on the horizon. That’s life. You will, at times, be made to feel “less than” or “not good enough”, but you can’t let those moments define you. Let them mold you. They are the universe’s way of teaching you life lessons. Don’t shy away from those moments. Take them head on and accept whatever challenge comes your way. Keep your eye on the prize and work hard for what you believe in. I promise you the recipe for the good life is in those ideals.
I love you so much it hurts.
