The Beyond Burger

As I have discussed, I am a self proclaimed “prosciuttoterian”. Oh plus, throw in some crispy, well-done bacon and I’ll eat that too. Other than that, sadly meat isn’t my jam anymore. I say “sadly” because I freaking loved a juicy steak or burger back in the day. Loved. The bloodier the better. Over some time, I just lost that need for meat. I didn’t necessarily choose to give it up, rather meat gave up me. Very organically, and over some time, meat and I decided to part ways. It wasn’t a nasty breakup or anything, we just grew apart. So, these days I’ve replaced my meats with tofu, chickpeas, other beans and legumes and, once in a while, fish. But there’s a small twist to my no meat diet…..

I F*CKING LOVE CHEESEBURGERS AND I MISS THEM!

Ugh, the struggle is so real people. When I was little, cheeseburgers were basically my life source. I was obsessed. Before we’d go out to a Chinese or Greek restaurant, my dad would have to explain to me that where we were going to eat wouldn’t serve burgers. I wouldn’t have wanted one from some of those joints anyway… I liked cheeseburgers so much, I had button covers fashioned as them. You’re probably wondering, why doesn’t she just freaking eat one? Because, although I love them, the idea of meat grosses me out. I’m sure that working in the yoga industry played a role, but I don’t think I was ever going to eat meat for the long haul. Over the years, I have found and eaten various veggie burger options. Edible indeed, but I wouldn’t go around town hootin’ and hollerin’ about how delicious they are….well, that was until my yogi friend, Wendy, dropped a major burger bomb on me not too long ago.

TSPEEPS, Behold! The Beyond Burger!!!!!

Oh, my word, people! The minute this plant-based patty hit my lips, I was skyrocketed into hamburger heaven. Ok, I know you will probably find this hard to believe, especially if you eat real beef burgers, but The Beyond Burger tastes like a legit burger. Oh, and hold up! Not only does it taste like one in flavor, it has the texture of one too. Yup. It’s that deliciously insane. Now, I for sure should be getting paid to write this shit (still working on how all that blog business stuff works…) but check this out: it’s soy-free, gluten-free and has zero GMOs.  It’s completely vegan and has 20 grams of plant protein. I know a lot of folks considering giving up meat who haven’t made the leap yet in fear of not having what they love. Problem solved. If you say you still worship real beef burgers, I still say give this one a shot.

I’ve been having some fun with this burger. I throw that little sucker on the cast iron skillet, as per the directions, and it gets charred and a bit crispy on the outside and remains almost medium rare on the inside. How is the color red like real raw meat you ask? Beets. How genius is that? Lately, I’ve been melting some shaved Parmesan cheese, topping it with arugula, avocado and raw onions. You don’t even know… But, I hope you find out! I swear on Egon, it tastes like a beef burger and has officially made all my vegetarian dreams come true. Next up, I will be making a black and blue burger…medium rare and blue cheese. Then one day I’m going to get some butter lettuce and use it as a GD bun for my Beyond Burger. I can basically do whatever the hell I want with it and feel like I’m eight again chowing down on good old fashioned hamburger. Don’t believe me that it tastes like one yet? Here, have a look at how much it looks like a real dang burger:

Listen, TSPeeps. Trust me. If you’re looking to cut back on the meat intake…go to a Whole Foods near you and pick up some Beyond Burger patties. And, do let me know what you think of them! Enjoy!

Love it. Live it. Feel free to share it too! XOXO

Thanks for sharing. My hubby and I are vegetarians. Somewhat new to this veggie world…and we BOTH crave burgers. I will quickly grab this and give it a try. I was considering grabbing some sliders from Mana in the city, but this is much easier. Enjoyed this post. Thanks!

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
