Our favorite season is just around the corner, which means…getting cozy with it. Now whether or not you use the word or have heard the word “hygge“, I can almost guarantee that in some way, shape, or form, you get hygge with it. I get it, not everyone is going to be down or even care to use this little funky word, that’s no problem. But, I have a sneaky suspicion you may already have some of these lifestyle qualities about you.
The idea behind this concept is that your ambiance and the additions that you add to it can lead you to have a more fulfilled, happy, and cozy existence. You don’t need much to achieve this. As a matter of fact, you probably already have everything you need to add extra cozy vibes to your life. It’s more or less about embracing what is around you and letting it add more happiness to YOU. Here, let’s see how the following thoughts, feelings, and images resonate with you….
Imagine the following moments and feelings….
Do you or don’t you enjoy the comfort of a good chunky sweater and/or scarf?
Do you love lighting candles in your home to create a warm and dimly lit ambiance?
Does the idea of cozying up with your favorite book on a cool, fall morning with a hot mug of coffee or tea (or whiskey, no judgement here) make you feel warm and fuzzy?
Does the thought of sharing a meal, catching up, laughing, and reminiscing with a small group of your closest friends in a little corner of a restaurant give you any feels? What about with a delicious craft beer or jammy, red wine?
Does the fall sports season do anything for you? Listen, I’ll never understand football, but you better believe once a year, I bundle up and get my butt over to Soldier Field for one Bear’s game and some tailgating. I love a good home run!
Is there a specific cozy corner or spot in your home that you often find yourself retreating to because it’s just “your spot”?
How about hosting? This one could be hit or miss. Do you like having friends and/or family at your home for dinner parties or even Sunday Football and filling your home with laughs, good vibes, yummy food smells, and conversation?
Mmmmm, apple picking anyone???
What about sipping on hot cocoa or warm cider wrapped in a plaid flannel?
And how about nature’s sexiest show of them all? Do you enjoy the changing of the trees?
Hold up! Do you like making soups and sippin’ on them too? Especially on a cool, fall afternoon???
Are you mad about plaid?
You know what’s perfect on a chilly, fall night? Wrapping up in blankets around a crackling bonfire, making s’mores and telling spooky stories. Any interest?
Does the autumn sky or sunsets give you all the feels?
Do pumpkins have an innate, magical effect on you and you’re not sure why, but you’re sure you love them anyway? Do you find yourself adorning them in your home or on your front stoop to get into the spirit of things?
Perhaps you have a thing for funky pumpkins? (The funkier the better in my opinion.)
Does a night in on the weekend watching movies and cozying up with your lover or family members make you feel warm and fuzzy on this inside?
What about long autumn walks as the cool breeze rushes by while you’re lost in thought and in nature – you likey?
Does the smell of orange peel, cinnamon, and clove simmering over the stove top do anything for you?
How about baking? Do the aromas of freshly baked loaves of quick bread, pies, crisps, or scones straight from the oven make you close your eyes as you take in giant whiffs of freshly baked scents?
Did you know that snuggling up with your favorite furbaby anytime time of the year is considered extra hygge because it’s proven to make you feel happier? Do you enjoy canine or feline snuggles?
If you said “yes” to many or most of the questions above, I guess you can say, that you do, in fact, get hygge with it or that you love exceptionally cozy vibes. If you said “no” to most questions, then you don’t. Really, all it comes down to is celebrating the seasons. Some people love them, some people don’t. I think with so much bullshit surrounding us, so many upsetting news stories, devices stuck in our faces, everyday stressors in life, sick loved ones, working multiple jobs, (the list can go on and on) being in the present moment and enjoying time with family and friends helps maintain sanity and good vibes. It’s about adding those warm textures, home-cooked meals, and implementing ways to stay happy, even though the days get shorter and the days get darker. It’s adapting to the changes of the year as the months go by and doing so with a positive attitude. That’s truly what hygge is all about. I look at it as celebrating life, one cozy moment at a time.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to share on social media or with anyone who may love some fall like good vibes. Happy Fall. xo, Lauren
