We are all about supporting the modern working woman on our blog. We love nothing more than sharing inspiring stories of empowered women who are game for creating their own career and doing what they love all the while balancing their number one job: motherhood. These days, women are not only creating careers for themselves, but they are also creating businesses designed to help and assist other women and working moms because they realize we all lack the same thing. Time. But, just because we don’t have time, doesn’t mean we can’t have fun or, in this case, throw a great party. We can and we will! Meet our friends, the party-styling extraordinaires and badass creators behind Line and Lee, Caroline and Ashley.
You two are badass women, moms, sisters from other misters, entrepreneurs and the creators of the party-styling biz, Line and Lee. Tell us what Line and Lee is all about and what inspired you to create it.
Line & Lee is all about fun! We create party blueprints–when people work with us they get a plan for their menu & drinks (homemade or catered), decor, a personalized playlist, and a day by day checklist for their event. We make hosting stress-free and easy.
We both live in the same town and are married to brothers. Our kids are the same ages so, after many playdates, our conversations kept coming back to our passions for cooking, style and parties, and that’s how Line & Lee was born.
What is the most rewarding/exciting aspect of running your own business?
We love getting to work together, using our creative side, and creating our own path and opportunities. We’ve worked with so many amazing people through event styling and hearing their post-party recaps is our absolute favorite thing. Those day-after stories when you hear about the person who started the dance party, the tears of joy, or the person who had one too many. We live for that!
You two are basically sisters and both moms. We know all too well what that sister/mom dynamic brings to the work table. What has been your biggest struggle/challenge navigating your entrepreneurial venture since you began?
Who is going to watch our kids? Honestly. Who??
What helps you get past any fears or negative inner dialogue? Tell us exactly what drives you.
We believe so strongly in our business and the service we provide. Being able to share our blueprints with clients and know that we’re helping make their celebrations more enjoyable pushes us.
Who pushes you on a daily basis and who is your biggest inspiration?
Ashley: My kids are my biggest inspiration. Showing them that you can follow your dreams and you can make your passion your work is so important to me. You don’t have to go to an office to work!
Caroline: I’ve always had a very entrepreneurial mindset, so I push myself to be creative every day. I am so inspired by all my people–my kids, my husband, Ashley, my family, and friends. It’s amazing how many people spark ideas!
What do you love most about you? (*not body-wise, but character, professionally, politically etc.) Or, how do each of your skill sets compliment each other on the job?
We love keeping things simple–everything is more fun when it’s approachable and relatable.
What would you say your greatest struggles are when it comes to working with family?
See above. (KIDS!)
What is your go-to outfit/style like?
Caroline: Jeans and a t-shirt all day, every day. My ideal closet would be a blend of Madewell and JCrew.
Ashley: Comfort is key. I currently have a one-month-old, so there’s a lot of elastic going on! This fall, I’m looking forward to oversized sweaters and a good new pair of jeans.
Tell us one thing many people may not know about you?
Ashley: I was a tomboy when I was younger.
Caroline: The moonwalk used to be my go-to party trick.
If you could have wine or coffee with any woman, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Oprah’s house or bust.
I mean, we are clearly going there for a dinner party–the food, the company, the scene–we envision it to be perfection.
When you’re not being badass women, what do you do on your downtime? (Feel free to specify any books, tv, podcast, music, etc., if that is how you spend your downtime.)
All things Bravo.
We love listening to music–we are always working on the perfect playlist. We’ve been loving the Avett Brothers, Dispatch, and Keller and the Keels lately.
Podcasts have become a current favorite…it’s the best way to stay entertained and informed while folding laundry or driving to an event. Currently listening to “The Daily”, “The Goop Podcast”, and “Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations”.
What message of inspiration do you have for all women reading this?
Trust your gut! Let your idea, your passion, your pipe dream, become your thing–if you love it, chances are other people will love it too!
What feeds your soul?
Travel! We love a good adventure and getting to share that with our kids! It doesn’t matter if it’s California or hopping on the train to the city, there’s always a story to remember and usually a good meal along the way.
What would your Bravo Real Housewife tagline be?
“We may be moms, but we party like a mother.”
What tests your patience most?
Negative people–ain’t nobody got time for that!
