The holiday season is one that is often filled with tradition. Baking and sharing Christmas cookies is one of our most hygge of holiday traditions. When we were small it was all about baking them with our mom, who was dedicated to keeping the tradition alive. As we turned into adults it evolved into a cookie exchange. Each of us make our own baked goods to trade so we can share them with our friends, neighbors, and teachers.
Our cookie exchange isn’t all business. The event is also an excuse to gather, drink (thinking glogg for this year’s exchange) and have a laugh. We come with to-go containers in tow and leave with an assortment of holiday sweets to share.
Sharing baked goods is such a great way to get hygge for the holidays! Homemade gifts have a sentiment about them and giving them is almost as fun as receiving.
My favorite holiday sweet has always been my mom’s Hershey Kiss Cookie. I could not wait until she would bake them so I could bite the tops off when she wasn’t looking. True story. The Kiss Cookie is the perfect amount of soft and chewy and the combo and ratio of peanut butter to chocolate is damn near perfect. As kids, we delivered the homemade sweets, now my kids do the same.
Enough sappy talk about way back when. Enjoy this simple and sweet holiday treat.
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of crunchy peanut butter
1 bag of Hershey Kisses
~ Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
~ Mix the ingredients together. Make teaspoon size rolls and bake for 7 1/2 minutes.
~ Take the cookies out of the oven and press the Hershey Kiss into the center of the ball, then place back into the oven – count to five and take out to cool.
I hope I have inspired you to bake and share a little something this season. I think our world could use a little more love and compassion. The holidays can be especially hard and lonely for so many. Perhaps you have an elderly neighbor who doesn’t often receive visitors and could use a little holiday cheer. Bake some sweets and spread some joy. You are on your way to finding your hygge.
Happy Hygge Holidays!
