When Lauren and I started blogging we wanted to be sure we were doing “all the right things” so TSP would kick ass! There was a lot of talking and networking about how The Sister Project needed to proceed in order for us to succeed. We observed our fellow influencers and did all the necessary research. At the end of the day, we came up with one conclusion: authenticity is key.
And, let’s be real, there are certainly a lot of things we are not, but being authentic is one of our more redeeming qualities. So, we got a plan together. It went like this:
#1. Build a website. #2 Be authentic.
Yeah, that’s it. That’s all we got. The constant in all of this was that we are sisters who also happen to be obssessed with cozy living and soup (okay, that is a joke; we are obsessed with so much more) and we shared everything we loved with each other our whole lives and now it’s time we share it all on our blog.
So, here we are. This platform has grown into a lovely little community. We now proudly refer to ourselves as “micro-influencers.” Everyday, we engage with you and that makes us happy. We have honed our authentic voice and those weird ‘online relationships’ we have created are the reason we keep doing what we are doing.
It is our mission to inspire you to live your best/coziest life. We want you to know that, whenever you hop on our site or scroll through our feed, you are only going to get what you see.
Authenticity
Here is the deal. We don’t get inspired by the inauthentic, why would you? We are real through and through. Always have been—it’s what we do. Sincerely, Bill Shakespeare
Brand Alignment
We feel really strong about this: We aren’t interested in talking about things that we don’t absolutely love or with which we don’t align. Tomorrow, we aren’t going to wake up and suddenly become fitness bloggers. Do we care about fitness? Of course. Is it a part of who we are? Sure. But we also know that isn’t why you are reading this post right now. Cozy and hygge is our jam.
We don’t buy our friends.
Something you will likely never see on our social handles (unless we go viral of course) is a sudden spike in our numbers. What you will see is an actual representation of the organic community we have created.
Engagement matters
We love to hear from you. When conversations and interest are being generated over content we put out into the universe, it gives us life. Your outreach and correspondence means we have your ear and you too have something to say! Let’s keep having convesations! They make life interesting.
We aren’t perfect.
Not even close. In fact, we want you to know that we are quite the opposite. We try to create an Instagram feed that is representative of that, the imperfect. Our lives aren’t perfectly curated and sometimes we take a bad picture. Life isn’t about perfect, it is about real. Real talkin’, target shoppin’, hygge enthusiasts with a mission that circles around our imperfect life. Case in point: Our journey with dementia.
Consistentcy is key.
We show up every day, not just because we love it but also because we know you are out there and we want to deliver. If we don’t show up, you will forget about us and we sure as shit don’t want you to do that.
Sharing is caring.
Every time you share content created by yours truly it breathes life into us and, to be frank, it helps us. We are a grassroots operation and the only thing driving this bus is passion and a desire to inspire you to live your best life. Your share gets us a little bit further than we were the day before and, for that, we are eternally grateful.
xo, Michelle
This post is amazing and so inspiring! My sister and I are also best friends and have been traveling the world together and supporting one another in our own personal endeavors and passions. We created a blog of our own to share our travel stories and inspire others and now we are currently in the process of trying to rebrand and turn it into something bigger + more specific. Your advice in this post and the beautiful words you’ve shared all over your blog give us motivation and encouragement to continue dedicating the necessary time and energy into our own blog. Thanks for sharing your stories and inspiration with us!
