Cozy Tween Bedroom

@kyleniego

We have a tween bedroom upgrade on the blog today. With the help of my uber talented friend Jen Dina of Jen Dina Interiors, we transformed a pretty basic little girl’s bedroom into a cute and cozy tween sanctuary. I wanted to create a room that Mia could grow into and feel super comfy in at the same time. Per usual, Jen got my vision and nailed it. We kept it simple with plain white walls because I am basic like that and had some fun with the tiny details, textures and subtle pops of color.

The prerequisite for this room was cozy and inviting.  The contrast in colors and textures, whispy hanging plants and comfy accessories transformed this room into the snuggliest hygge nook!

When a room is more glass than walls, you have to be creative.  In this case, we were limited as to where we could place furniture. We installed a built-in along the window wall with 3 huge drawers and a desk. With that adjustment alone, we were able to eliminate some furniture and add a TON more space for clothes and all the things tweens collect!

There are some benefits to an abundance of windows. Natural light! However, when that sun goes down, ya need light. Fixtures that make an impact at first glance are cool but what they look like when they are turned on is what I love so much about the macrame pendant we chose from World Market.

Jen is pro at layering and mixing and matching to tie a space altogether. In this case, furry things and cushy seats were plenty. There is no better way to make a room cozy than by tying it all in with a great rug and some pillows and cushions so there is ample space for the youngins to hang while they are chilling and doing whatever it is tweens do.

A hygge space without house plants is simply not hygge at all. There is something so calming about peering into the corner of a room and seeing life dangling from the ceiling. Plants are a great way to fill dead space and add a little vibrancy to a room. The only downside to the one we hung in Mia’s room is that fact that you can’t see its adorable planter.

Where to buy:
Shelving, Frames and Bedside Table – Ikea
Pillows, Throws, Cushions, and Faux Fur – Home Goods and World Market
Area Rug – Rugs USA
Wall Sconce – Amazon
Macrame Pendant – World Market
Desk Mirror – Birch Lane
Margot Hanging Planter – Urban Outfitters

Hygge is humble and slow. It is choosing rustic over new, simple over posh, and ambience over excitement. In many ways, hygge might be the Danish cousin to slow and simple living.
