For the past month, there has been absolutely no shortage of fresh flowers (our house plants) in our home. Loved ones from near and far have sent them to brighten up our space and offer some good, natural vibes. And boy did I feel big love…both from the flowers and the giver.
Flowers are one of nature’s most admired masterpieces.
For ages, humans have ooohed and aaaaaaahhhhed over these colorful little wonders.
They come in all different shapes and sizes. Fragrances and hues. The anticipation of warmer months ahead is often queued by the blooming of petals which in turn can entice a good mood.
***Especially if you’re from Chicago.***
Some folks even travel to far off lands, just to see fields filled with color popping tulips. One would suspect they must do so because it makes them feel good. The eyes capture the beauty which then sends feel-good chemicals to our brain. It’s straight up science that flowers make us feel happy.
It is also precisely the same reason why we give flowers and plants as gifts of love, support, gratitude, celebration, and forgiveness…
because we know they evoke something special from within.
It’s no wonder results from a recent study from the American Society for Horticultural Science shows that fresh flowers really can help relieve pain, stress, and anxiety. Research showed that when two groups of post-op patients were split between two rooms, half in rooms with live foliage, half without – the group with plants had lower blood pressure, heart rate and reported lower levels of anxiety. Positive thoughts and feelings were also elevated.
The conclusion was made that live plants and flowers should be “complementary medicine” for patients.
It just goes to show that flowers really do have healing powers.
Nature – you are sexy, strong, resilient and healing. Thank you.
