These days it’s exceptionally easy to slap buzzwords like “clean” and “organic” on any product on the market, especially beauty products.
We as consumers are becoming more educated and want to know what the hell we’re putting in and on our bodies. Knowing this, companies are marketing all sorts of products as clean beauty….but are they really clean?
In an effort to see through all the marketing BS, we have armed ourselves with the Think Dirty App.
Think Dirty allows us to double-check which brands are indeed clean and which are full of shit. Literally.
If you haven’t downloaded it yet and you care about what you put on your skin, then get to it!
Our rule of thumb is to stay out of the red zone on Think Dirty as much as possible and stick in the green and yellow zones.
Now, not every product on the market is on the app – yet. They’re working on it.
Most of the products below are in the safe zones on Think Dirty or have been strongly claimed as clean by their manufacturer. Like we mentioned, we try our best.

Sunday Riley, LUNA Night Oil
The saying, I woke up like this, holds true after patting this Retinol oil on my face before bedtime. LUNA oil has a magical way of having me waking up looking fresh and clean. I use it in an effort to reduce fine lines and discoloration. Some folks are not fans of the earthy smell, but that is precisely what I love about it. – Lauren
Cocokind, Cleansing Oil
There is nothing better than an oil cleanser that can remove 47 coats of mascara and clean an entire pretty face. Coconut, avocado, and lavender oil make up the majority of this beautiful product. If you’re in the market for a gentle cleanser, look no further. – Lauren
Tata Harper, Purifying Mask
Never have I had the at-home mask experience I did until I was introduced to Tata Harper. From immediate application to the post-mask effects, I was wildly impressed. This mask is on the thinner side which makes the application quite nice. It also makes your face tingle which, for me, means it’s working. My face felt as smooth as a young bum. I looked fresher and more refined than ever. I love this product. – Michelle
Shea Moisture, African Black Soap
In an effort to reduce waste (no plastic bottle), this bar of soap checked that box. It also happens to be super moisturizing. Less waste. Softer skin. Check and check. – Michelle
Biossance, Eye Cream
I amped up my eye care regiment with Biossance’s algae eye cream and I don’t regret it for a minute. When the shop girl told me it was like botox in a little glass jar, I said, yes, please! I can see a difference after more than a month of using this clean eye cream. – Lauren
m-61, PowerGlow Peel
We cannot stress this enough…you need these pads in your bathroom. PowerGlow Peels are basically flash facials! I recommend you use them the night before or the morning prior to a big event you want glowing skin for. Another option is to use them regularly once or twice a week. Prepare for a real glow. – Lauren
Luxxe Honor, Natural Deodorant
Of all the natural deodorants we have tried, Luxxe Honor’s tops our list. It’s effective and doesn’t create a rash or an itch that sometimes comes with more natural, non-aluminum deodorants. You may notice residue while placing the cap back on, but we have a solution for that. Use your fingers to remove it and apply it to your armpits! Great scent options as well! – Lauren
Indie Lee, Recover Bath Soak
The word luxurious is what comes to mind when I use this beautiful potion. Not only is it both a body exfoliator and moisturizer, but it also creates the most zen-like ambiance while in the tub. If you’re not a big bather, slather it all over your beautiful body while in the shower. – Lauren
OSEA, Body Oil
This was my first go with body oil when I decided to stop using body lotion. It was a good choice because I love it. My skin feels as moisturized at the end of the day as it does the beginning of the day when first applied. The citrus scent smells as clean as the product itself. Zero guilt with this beauty product. – Michelle
Pacha, Whipped Soap+Scrub
I use this as a soap, exfoliator, and a shaving lather. Talk about a triple threat! There are a plethora of delightful scents to choose from. It is such a good, clean buy with proceeds going to third world countries in an effort to help individuals pursue their own entrepreneurships. – Lauren
MISSIO, Coconut Cleansing Powder
We both stopped using aerosol dry shampoo many moons ago. Since then, we’ve been trying out different dry shampoos as they’re hailed as more natural and cleaner. MISSIO’s smells like coconut and does the job we hired it to do! – Lauren
Thanks for this, Lauren! I recently started using Bambu Earth skincare products which also markets itself as ‘clean’ skincare line. By the ingredients it seems so, but I was curious if you have heard of or used these products and what your thoughts are?
Hi Olivia! I haven’t tried BE yet, but loving the look of their products. Going to dig into them more online. Thank you for sharing! xo
