It’s been a long minute since I wrote something more personal here on the blog so I thought I’d take a few moments to say hello and share something I found to be really powerful and timely.
The other day I was tuning into my Insight Timer app to do some morning meditation when I randomly chose an audio guide by an internationally known yogi and wise man, Sadhguru.
Side note: I had no idea who this man was prior to me pressing play, however, I am now following him anywhere I can find his wisdom.
The focus of this particular meditation was how to be successful.
Trust me on this one, Sadhguru did not share the perfect morning routine for success or how to breathe your way to a promotion.
In fact, one may find his words a bit jarring, but I found them extraordinarily powerful and truthful.
He shared that in order to be a success you have to realize two things:
You are mortal and your time here is brief.
He goes on to explain that every morning when we wake up, millions of people around the world will not. We need to open our eyes, smile at the ceiling, and welcome a new day because we are, in fact, alive.
A new day filled with endless possibilities awaits!
Now, you may be wondering how this notion has anything to do with success.
I believe what this wise gentleman is saying is if you can wake up every morning celebrating your breathing, living self, and acknowledge the beauty and miracle of being alive (and that one day you won’t be) that whatever you do moving forward will be a success.
You will lead your life differently, perhaps more mindfully and more in tune.
Doing what you love in life not what you think you should do because others say so makes you a success. Helping an old lady cross the street or count her change at the grocery store is not only a kind thing to do for someone, it’s a supreme example of successful co-existing. Living your true authentic self and loving who you love is a success. Slowing down and enjoying the natural elements around you is a beautiful way to not only connect with our planet but also cultivate success in your day.
To be a success isn’t just about what’s in the bank, what kind of car you drive, how many followers you have on Instagram, and what title you hold. Honestly, to me, that’s a big ole combination of hard work, strong skill sets, some luck, and perhaps a viral social media post.
Still success, but just a different kind of success because let’s be honest, not everyone has those tools and resources.
However, I do believe we all have the ability to pull from within a different sort of skill set aimed for a more universal, accessible, type of success.
In fact, if this pandemic truly taught us anything about being a successful human, it’s that experiencing moments, spending time with our loved ones, and finding gratitude in the mere fact that we’re alive are what matter most.
Having the resilience to get through this moment in time, a pandemic of all things, is in and of itself, a huge success.
Now you go right on ahead and enjoy the slow pace of summer because guess what….
You, my dear, are already a great, big, beautiful, success.
