Hi friend,
I am so excited to be writing my first entry in our new Cozy Catch Up series. It is been a minute since we caught up like this. It feels nice.
Many moons ago, when The Sister Project started, and we used to catch up like this, my babies were, well, babies, my mom was alive and not well, and life was so busy I would blink and the day would be over.
Nowadays, I am still busy AF, but good busy. The kind of busy that keeps me on my toes, but also learning new things, and having new experiences with some time for fun and a little R & R.
Let’s catch up!
For starters, I went back to school. Not the traditional kind, the voice-over kind. It had been months that I had been contemplating dipping my toes into the voice acting arena. Lauren was the first to tip me off to the notion that maybe my voice could be another avenue of monetization. After some investigating and a serendipitous occurrence, I decided to take the plunge.
I am in a 5-week intensive course that is actually led by one of my favorite meditation teachers on Insight Timer. Her name is Amanda Sellers and her voice is smooth as silk. Last week, my brain exploded when I got to learn from the great Marc Cashman. He’s a VO Pro!
Short-term goal: Practice 20 minutes every day and take my new VO knowledge and apply it to the ad spots we do for our own partners on the podcast. Do you hear a difference already?
Long-term goal: Determine what lane I am best suited for in the VO space, make a site, create a demo, and put myself out there.
Stay tuned for more on voice-over progress. It’s fun!
Let’s go to the theatre!
In the last three weeks, I have seen three live theatre performances and I am not complaining. Mia and I kicked off the New Year with some friends and saw the broadway performance of Frozen in Chicago. I cried. I laughed. I was utterly entertained. The set was pure magic and I didn’t care how long I had to stand in line in the cold to get vaccine approval, the theatre lives and it was glorious!
I was still high off the Frozen performance when I got to see my little thespian, Mia, performed in Ghostlight Collectives performance of Shrek! Oh, my heart! I was mesmerized once again by the set and the energy the young performers brought to the stage. My little sweetie loves the theatre so much and to see her shine on stage is equivalent to taking a hit off of a good vibes bong.
Literally counting the minutes until she takes the stage once again. I know a little bit about being on stage and that performing buzz is gosh darn addicting. Special thanks to the folks at Ghostlight for creating an incredibly positive space for young performers. It goes beyond the theatre. It is a community and I absolutely adore what they do for these kids.
I’m done gushing now.
Deep thoughts…
Parenting is like a game of chess and mental telepathy all wrapped into one big giant question.
What the fuck am I doing? I know I am not the only one walking around wondering if I said the right the thing or made the best choice at the moment, but I am trying.
I am certainly willing to take any advice on the parenting front anyone is willing to share.
I was fortunate enough to receive a bit of advice when I was trying to figure out what types of activities my kids might be interested in doing.
A wise woman told me that I will know exactly what my child wants after they ask for it not once or twice, but three times.
Since I obtained that knowledge, there has been a shift. I think they call this autonomy.
Freedom of choice by my kids has turned me into a more empowered mom.
This is their journey. I am merely their support.
Thanks for dropping in.
Stay cozy,
Michelle
