One of my favorite traditions growing up was loading into our family’s minivan and heading to the local Christmas tree lot to pick out the family Christmas tree.
There was nothing more jolly than the choosing and trimming of the annual tree.
Every year, exactly two weeks before Christmas, we would make our way to choose the fullest, most fragrant Frasier fir we could find.
Our perfect tree had some basic tree requirements.
It had to be straight, as close to symmetrical as nature would provide, and smell like Christmas.
Once chosen, we secured our tree to the top of our van, and back home we went. This part always felt a bit anticlimactic because the tree was put in our garage overnight while it opened up and the branches fell.
I swear my parents were stalling because they knew what they were up against for the next 14 days with 5 holiday-hyped kids and a real Christmas tree.
To us that tree only meant one thing, Santa was coming. We would lose our minds.
Who knew that on top of everything else our mom managed during the holiday, she was maintaining a fresh Christmas tree too.
I think I was 40 when I finally spoke up and said I am not a fan of ‘real’ and don’t want to do this anymore.
So, we started our own tradition and have been sporting a fake tree ever since. Best new tradition ever!
Our fake tree brings us less stress and more joy and she is sturdy and symmetrical, never gets thirsty, or drops a single needle. In fact, we love her so much, sometimes we leave her up past the New Year.
Please don’t think I am trying to ruin your Christmas and stomp on your traditions if you are all in on the real thing.
I wish you the merriest of Christmases either way.
However, if you have been flirting with the idea of switching to fake, but are worried about such things as, oh, let’s say, the glorious smell of a real one, please don’t worry.
That is what our Cozy AF candle is for.
